Job summary

Nova Scotia Health Authority seeks an Anesthesia Assistant to provide clinical and technical support across pre-operative, OR, PACU and related QEII areas on a 24/7 basis. Reporting to the anesthesia team, you will ensure equipment and resources are ready to deliver safe anesthesia care.

Requirements include registration as a Respiratory Therapist, NSRTP registration or eligibility, anesthesia assistant certification, and BLS-C with ACLS. Two years of OR experience is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Must be a Registered Respiratory Therapist.
  • Current registration with the Nova Scotia College of Respiratory Therapists or eligible for registration.
  • Completion of an Anesthesia Assistant certification required.
  • CSRT membership with CCAA designation considered an asset.
  • Minimum of two years experience as a respiratory therapist preferred.
  • Previous experience in the operating room area an asset
  • Degree preferred; previous anesthesia courses an asset.
  • Current BLS-C (HCP) and ACLS is required.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical and technical support in pre-operative areas, operating rooms, post-anesthesia care units and other QEII facilities.
  • Assist anesthesia team to ensure resources required for anesthesia care are available.
  • Support patient management and equipment readiness during anesthesia procedures.

About The Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager - Department of Anesthesia and under the direction of the Anesthesiologist, the Anesthesia Assistant provides clinical and technical support in the pre-operative areas, operating rooms, post anesthesia care units and in other specialty areas contained within QEII facilities where anaesthesia services may be required on a 24/7 basis. The Anesthesia Assistant participates in the clinical management of the patient as well as providing assistance to ensure all resources required for the administration of anesthetic care to the patient are immediately available and ready for use.

Physical Demands: The Anesthesia Assistant must be capable of repositioning anesthesia equipment (weights of up to 50 pounds) and supplies when required.

Where there are no qualified candidates, consideration may be given to those who are currently enrolled in a recognized Anesthesia Assistant program and will be expected to successfully complete within 2 years.

Hours
  • Permanent Full-Time Position; 75 Hours Bi-weekly
  • Shift work (8, 10, 12 hour shifts); days, nights and weekends
Compensation And Benefits

$46.17 - $60.99 Hourly
