The Role

As an Analyst/Associate, Sustainable Energies & Infrastructure Credit (SEIC), you will conduct fundamental investment research and financial analysis, help develop investment recommendations, support the implementation of fundamental investment strategies, and monitor and manage portfolio investments. You may also support the identification, scoping, and implementation of value creation opportunities through research, analysis, and presentation development.

The Team

Real Assets Credit has approximately $12 billion in assets and specializes in sub-investment-grade credit across liquid and illiquid debt and the capital structure in primary and secondary markets, including first‑lien and second‑lien loans, unitranche loans, high‑yield and convertible bonds, bridge and mezzanine debt, and preferred equity.

Within Real Assets Credit, the Sustainable Energies & Infrastructure Credit (SEIC) team combines CPP Investments’ expertise in renewables, conventional energy, and infrastructure. The team invests across the energy and infrastructure landscape, with a diversified portfolio of long‑term tangible assets including wind and solar, conventional power, upstream oil and gas, midstream energy, traditional infrastructure, and digital infrastructure.

Accountabilities
  • Support the execution of new investment opportunities, with a focus on North America.
  • Develop company financial models, perform valuation analyses, review debt structures and underwriting parameters, and test assumptions and sensitivities.
  • Compile industry, market, and asset‑level data and financial information; conduct fundamental research and present research ideas to the broader group.
  • Perform due diligence on opportunities, including financial, company, and sector analysis, to assess investment merits and risks.
  • Prepare analytical investment reviews and recommendations with the team, including industry overviews, investment rationales, and due diligence reviews.
  • Support asset management activities for existing investments and contribute to the ongoing development of the SEIC team’s capabilities.
  • Participate in presentations of investment recommendations to the Investment Committee and Board, as required.
Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree, master’s degree, or college diploma in a relevant field.
  • 1–3 years of relevant experience, including investment banking, credit or equity investing, debt capital markets, corporate banking, consulting, or related fields.
  • Strong research, analytical, financial modelling, valuation, and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to think creatively.
  • Experience in deal environments, including supporting acquisitions, due diligence, and/or asset management activities.
  • Ability to develop thoughtful perspectives on relative value across the capital structure and among different credits.
  • Advanced MS Excel and MS PowerPoint skills, with strong verbal and written communication skills.
