Job summary

National Bank of Canada is seeking an Analyst, Execution for the National Client Group, Western Canada. This entry-level role offers exposure to credit underwriting, portfolio management and transaction support within a collaborative team.

You will build financial models, conduct analyses and assist in annual reviews, renewals and financing requests. Hybrid work and ongoing training are provided to develop technical and professional skills for future opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in finance, accounting, business, economics or a related field.
  • 0 to 2 years of experience in commercial banking, corporate banking, accounting, consulting, financial services, financial analysis or related field.
  • Solid knowledge of financial statement analysis, accounting principles and corporate finance fundamentals.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills with ability to interpret financial statements and assess business performance.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills with experience building, maintaining and analyzing financial models.
  • Demonstrated interest in leveraging technology, automation and AI-enabled tools to improve analytical workflows and reporting processes.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Ability to synthesize information and prepare clear, concise and professionally written presentations.

Responsibilities

  • Support Credit Execution team members and Relationship Managers in monitoring and administering a portfolio of large and complex client relationships.
  • Perform financial statement analysis, cash flow analysis and borrower performance reviews to support portfolio monitoring activities and assist senior team members in identifying emerging risks and trends.
  • Support covenant compliance monitoring, borrowing base reviews, borrower risk ratings, portfolio risk assessments and other ongoing credit monitoring requirements.
  • Conduct industry, market and company research to identify trends, risks and opportunities affecting client portfolios.
  • Assist in the preparation of annual reviews, renewals, amendments and other portfolio-related credit requests.
  • Build, maintain and update financial models, borrower reporting packages and portfolio monitoring tools under the direction of senior team members.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual portfolio reporting, management reporting packages and boardsheet materials.
  • Work closely with teammates to ensure client files, financial information and collateral records remain accurate and up to date.
  • Assist in gathering information and coordinating due diligence requirements in support of annual reviews, amendments, renewals and financing transactions.
  • Assist senior team members with special projects, strategic initiatives and transaction support activities as required.
  • Leverage Microsoft Excel, Copilot and emerging AI-enabled tools to improve analytical processes, reporting efficiency and portfolio monitoring activities.
  • Participate in client meetings and internal discussions alongside senior team members to gain exposure to underwriting, relationship management and transaction execution activities.

Based in either Calgary, Alberta, or Vancouver, British Columbia, and reporting to the Head of Credit Execution, Western Canada, you will develop the technical skills required to build a successful career in corporate banking and credit underwriting through the development of financial analysis, portfolio management activities and transaction support.

This position is designed as an entry point into National Client Group, Western Canada and provides a structured development path toward progressively more senior responsibilities. Working alongside experienced bankers and credit professionals, you will gain exposure to credit analysis, portfolio management, annual reviews, transaction support and client relationship management within a collaborative and team-oriented environment, while developing the technical, analytical and professional skills required to build a successful career with National Bank.

Working hours are dictated by portfolio and transaction demands under a hybrid work environment with both days in the office and at home. Occasional travel for client and team meetings will be required.

Your Job:

Basic Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree in finance, accounting, business, economics or a related field.
