Job summary

University Health Network (UHN) is seeking an Analyst, AI to design, implement, and support AI and Generative AI solutions. The role focuses on vector databases, embedding pipelines, semantic search, NLP, LLMs and Retrieval-Augmented Generation to enable scalable AI-powered knowledge apps.

You will develop RAG pipelines, optimize vector search, and ensure governance, security and responsible AI practices while collaborating with technical and business teams across sites in Toronto.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in a relevant field (CS/DS/Engineering)
• 1–2 years of hands-on AI/ML or data science production work
• Strong Python and SQL programming skills
• Experience with ML frameworks such as scikit-learn or XGBoost
• Experience with LLM technologies, RAG and embeddings
• Experience building vector databases and semantic search systems
• Familiarity with Azure AI tools and MLOps concepts

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain enterprise vector databases for AI and LLM-powered applications
• Develop embedding pipelines for structured and unstructured data in healthcare
• Implement vector indexing, semantic search, and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architectures
• Optimize retrieval performance and similarity search accuracy
• Integrate vector databases with Azure AI Search, Qdrant, Pinecone or similar platforms
• Build scalable data ingestion and embedding refresh pipelines

Position Summary

The Analyst, AI supports the design, development, implementation, and ongoing support of AI and Generative AI solutions. The role specializes in vector databases, embedding pipelines, semantic search, NLP, LLMs, and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) to enable scalable AI-powered applications and knowledge solutions.

The incumbent develops and optimizes AI solutions, including RAG pipelines, vector search, LLM applications, and AI guardrails for secure and reliable use of AI. Working with technical and business teams, the role analyzes requirements, evaluates AI performance, supports deployment and operations, and contributes to AI governance, monitoring, security, and responsible AI practices.

Duties

• Design, build, and maintain enterprise vector databases for AI and LLM-powered applications
• Develop embedding pipelines for structured and unstructured healthcare data
• Implement vector indexing, semantic search, and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architectures
• Optimize retrieval performance, chunking strategies, metadata filtering, and similarity search accuracy
• Integrate vector databases with Azure AI Search, Qdrant, Pinecone, or similar platforms
• Build scalable data ingestion and embedding refresh pipelines for continuous AI operations
• Support agentic AI workflows with memory, context retrieval, and tool orchestration capabilities
• Establish standards and best practices for vector storage, retrieval evaluation, governance, and operational monitoring

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
• 1–2years of hands-on experience delivering AI, machine learning, or data science solutions in production
• Strong programming skills in Python and SQL
• Experience with machine learning frameworks such as scikit-learn or XGBoost
• Experience with Generative AI technologies including LLMs, prompt engineering, RAG pipelines, and embeddings
• Experience building vector databases, semantic search systems, and retrieval architectures
• Experience with vector databases such as Azure AI Search, Qdrant, or Pinecone
• Experience with Azure Machine Learning and Azure AI Foundry
• Proficiency in scalable AI workflows, APIs, deployment pipelines, and operationalization
• Familiarity with responsible AI, governance, privacy, and regulated environments
• Experience with LangChain, Semantic Kernel, or agentic AI frameworks an asset
• Familiarity with MLOps / LLMOps and CI/CD practices an asset
• Experience in healthcare, research, or other regulated industries an asset
• Exposure to enterprise AI platform design and AI enablement initiatives an asset
