Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or BA in a core mental health discipline preferred.

Job description

The Canadian Mental Health Association – Cochrane Timiskaming Branch is currently recruiting an Addictions & Mental Health Worker - Regulated for its Timmins office.

Requirements:

1. 1.A Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or a Bachelor of Arts Degree in one of the core mental health disciplines is preferred. Other levels of relevant education with experience in the mental health and addictions fields may be considered;
2. 2.Current Certificate of Registration in good standing with the College of Psychologists of Ontario (CPO), or Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW), or College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO), or College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO), or College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO);
3. 3.ASIST training;
4. 4.Knowledge of the Mental Health Act and other relevant legislation related to the role;
5. 5.Experience working in the mental health and addictions fields;
6. 6.Knowledge and understanding of the complex issues related to addictions, mental illness, poverty, and homelessness, as well as the impact of social/cultural/economic factors on the determinants of health;
7. 7.Understanding of and ability to work within professional and ethical guidelines;
8. 8.The ability to engage and work with a broad age group of clients with diverse and complex issues;
9. 9.Knowledge of psychotropic medications, their benefits and effects, would be beneficial;
10. 10. Demonstrated critical thinking skills including strong clinical judgment and problem-solving skills;
11. 11.Highly effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills and conflict resolution skills;
12. 12.Ability to meet tight deadlines and work in a fast-paced, often pressured, environment;
13. 13.Strong crisis and suicide intervention skills;
14. 14. Valid driver’s license from the province of Ontario and use of a reliable vehicle for work purposes;
15. 15.Clear vulnerable sector police check.
