Job summary

AltaGas is seeking a Utilities Strategy & Commercial Intern for Summer 2027 in Calgary. You will support strategic and commercial initiatives, participate in business case development, and gain exposure to how decisions are shaped in the utilities sector.

You will develop analytical capabilities, work on executive materials, and engage in performance reporting while receiving mentorship and networking opportunities through professional development sessions and a capstone project.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in 2nd or 3rd year of undergrad in Engineering, Business, Finance, Economics or related field.
• Strong interest in energy/utilities and the commercial side of business.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exposure to performance analysis or economic modelling.

Responsibilities

About the Role

Are you interested in learning how strategy and commercial decisions come together within the utilities industry? AltaGas is looking for a Utilities Strategy & Commercial Intern to join our team for Summer 2027! In this role, you’ll support strategic and commercial initiatives across our Utilities business, gaining exposure to how business priorities are developed, evaluated, and communicated. You’ll work on analysis, business cases, executive materials, performance reporting, and commercial opportunities while building an understanding of the factors that influence strategic and commercial decision-making in the utilities sector.

What You’ll Do

• Support the strategy development process through research, analysis, and preparation of materials.
• Assist with preparing presentations and materials for executive and Board meetings.
• Conduct commercial analysis and support the development of business cases.
• Analyze business performance and help prepare regular reporting and insights.
• Support the team in assessing and working through business issues and opportunities.
• Assist with deal-related activities, including economic modelling, deal analysis, and preparation of materials.

What You’ll Bring

• Currently enrolled in your 2nd or 3rd year of an undergraduate degree in Engineering, Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
• Strong interest in the energy and utilities industries and the commercial side of the business.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with exposure to performance analysis, economic modelling, or other quantitative analysis.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, with the ability to work with data and translate analysis into meaningful insights.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with excellent attention to detail.
• Curious, adaptable, and interested in understanding how strategic and commercial decisions are made.
