Job summary

AltaGas Ltd. in Calgary, Alberta, is looking for a Utilities Strategy & Commercial Intern to join our team for Summer 2027.

You will support strategic and commercial initiatives across our Utilities business, gaining exposure to how priorities are developed, evaluated, and communicated. You’ll work on analysis, business cases, executive materials, performance reporting, and commercial opportunities while building an understanding of strategic decision-making in the utilities sector.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in 2nd or 3rd year of an undergraduate degree in Engineering, Business, Finance, Economics or related field.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exposure to quantitative analysis.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; ability to translate data into insights.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Support the strategy development process through research, analysis, and preparation of materials.
• Assist with preparing presentations and materials for executive and Board meetings.

About The Role

Are you interested in learning how strategy and commercial decisions come together within the utilities industry? AltaGas is looking for a Utilities Strategy & Commercial Intern to join our team for Summer 2027!

In this role, you’ll support strategic and commercial initiatives across our Utilities business, gaining exposure to how business priorities are developed, evaluated, and communicated. You’ll work on analysis, business cases, executive materials, performance reporting, and commercial opportunities while building an understanding of the factors that influence strategic and commercial decision-making in the utilities sector.

What You’ll Do

• Support the strategy development process through research, analysis, and preparation of materials.


• Assist with preparing presentations and materials for executive and Board meetings.


• Conduct commercial analysis and support the development of business cases.


• Analyze business performance and help prepare regular reporting and insights.


• Support the team in assessing and working through business issues and opportunities.


• Assist with deal-related activities, including economic modelling, deal analysis, and preparation of materials.

What You’ll Bring

• Currently enrolled in your 2nd or 3rd year of an undergraduate degree in Engineering, Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field.


• Strong interest in the energy and utilities industries and the commercial side of the business.


• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with exposure to performance analysis, economic modelling, or other quantitative analysis.


• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, with the ability to work with data and translate analysis into meaningful insights.


• Strong written and verbal communication skills with excellent attention to detail.


• Curious, adaptable, and interested in understanding how strategic and commercial decisions are made.
