SUMMARY

Under the direction and guidance of the Airside Operations Manager and Assistant Manager, the Airside Operations Technician is responsible for coordinating the day-to-day operations of the Airport to ensure compliance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) regulations pertaining to airport operations. This entry level role provides a dynamic environment that requires an Airside Operations Technician to be quickly adaptable, have timely communication, and provide professional engagements to coworkers and customers. At Punta Gorda Airport (PGD) the major role of an Airside Operations Technician is to Inspect, Detect, and Report.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Represents the Airport in a professional manner with the direction of the Airside Operations Manager and Assistant Manager.
  • Ensure compliance with Federal Aviation Regulations 14 CFR Part 139, the Airport Certification Manual, the Airport Emergency Plan, the Wildlife Hazard Management Plan, Department SOP's, as well as other federal and local regulations.
  • Concurrently and separately perform airfield operations activities, including the inspection of the Air Operations Area, Airport facilities, perimeter fencing, gate access, buildings, and surrounding airport property; records discrepancies and arranges for corrective actions.
  • Coordinates with Air Traffic Control and issues Notice to Air Missions (NOTAM) to reflect current conditions on the Airfield.
  • Actively engages in documenting and mitigating wildlife hazards in accordance with the Wildlife Hazard Management Plan.
  • Engage with staff and tenants on Airfield improvements.
  • Actively promotes Safety and Compliance within the Airport community.
  • Acts as a representative for PGD while responding to all emergencies, incidents, and accidents; composes and distributes incident and accident reports to all necessary personnel; and coordinates any other assistance as needed.
  • Provides escort through the secure areas of the Air Operations Area (AOA).
  • Remains current on any new FAA and TSA Advisory Circulars and informs the Airside Operations Manager/Assistant Manager of changes.
  • Monitors driving habits to ensure driving rules are followed and reports to the Manager/Assistant Manager if reiteration of the rules is needed.
  • Executes minor maintenance and assists with emergency repairs.
  • Performs other duties and works on projects as assigned and delegated by Airside Manager.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field.
  • At least 1 year of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Or an equivalent combination of related education and experience.
  • Certification as a private pilot is highly desirable.
  • AAAE certifications & accreditations are highly desirable.
  • Successful completion of training, certification and maintaining currency as a FAA NF-Obs Weather Observer within 6 months of hire.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Proficiency in using standard office technology, including Microsoft Office 365 and database applications.
  • Able to solve problems independently, communicate effectively, and to seek guidance.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage time.
  • Knowledge of commercial and general aviation operations and procedures.
  • Skilled with aviation and ground base radio systems or similar equipment.
  • Able to provide excellent customer service.
  • Experience with wildlife management.
  • Able to drive on and off road in a safe manner.
  • English fluency in speaking, reading, and writing.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT

  • Capable of working in all weather conditions, including extreme heat and rain.
  • Able to lift 50 pounds, push, climb, and walk or drive much of the workday.
  • Able to work flexible hours and shift work, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Able to respond to on-call emergencies as needed.
  • Able to see with correction 20/20 and not be color impaired.
  • Able to work with background noises in the office and on the airfield.
