Job summary

University Health Network in Toronto is seeking a Temporary Part-Time Food Service Worker for the Nutrition Services department at the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute. The role covers days with alternating weekends, 08:00-16:00 shifts, and up to 24 hours per bi-weekly period.

Wage range is CAD 26.46–27.36 per hour. Requires Grade 12, good dexterity, ability to lift up to 10 kg, and strong teamwork in a healthcare setting.

Qualifications

• New hires must have grade 12 or equivalent education.
• Good manual dexterity and organizational skills.
• Ability to read/understand short notes, brief forms and memos.
• Must be able to meet the physical demands of the job: lift up to 10 kg.
• Availability for alternating weekends and statutory holidays.

Responsibilities

• Delivering meal carts, snacks and bulk supplies to patient units.
• Disassembling soiled trays and cleaning dishes as described.
• Stocking clean dishes and returning soiled items to kitchen.
• Washing and sanitizing racks, working with dish machine and compostable material.
• Performing cross-functional duties as assigned.

Duties:

• Delivering meal carts, snacks and bulk supplies to patient units
• Disassembling soiled patient trays including removing food debris from dishes, separating cutlery and processing soiled dishes through dish machine, re-soaking/scrubbing dishes/pots and pans as needed
• Stocking clean dishes in appropriate areas, collecting soiled dish racks and empty meal carts from loading dock and Patient units and returning to kitchen
• Washing/sanitizing racks and meal carts, cleaning ware washing area and dish machine, handling totes of compostable material and garbage
• Performing cross-functional duties as assigned and/or required; performing other duties consistent with the job classification, as required

Qualifications

• New hires must have grade 12 or equivalent education
• Good manual dexterity and organizational skills
• Good team player
• 6 months practical and related experience
• Food Service Worker Certificate preferred
• Food Handlers Certificate preferred
• Ability to read/understand short notes, brief forms and memos
• Must be able to meet the physical demands of the job: able to lift to 10 kg, loading, and unloading food trucks; pushing heavy food trucks during pick up and delivery of meals
• Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance with UHN standards
• Exercise initiative and good judgment with ability to multi-task
• Compliance with confidentiality requirements under UHN Privacy Policy
• Effective organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
• Knowledge of applicable legislative, UHN and/or departmental policies
• Client service oriented, with the ability to effectively work with diversity and appreciate that people with different opinions, backgrounds and characteristics bring richness to the challenge or situation at hand
• Required to be available to work alternating weekends and statutory holidays and at least 3-week days in a two-week period
• Work in Warm/Humid Conditions
• May be required to work at multiple areas as well as rotating shifts in emergency situations
