Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority is seeking an Aide - Dietary to join our team in Sioux Lookout, Ontario. This part-time permanent role involves assisting in meal preparation, service, and maintaining a clean, safe dining environment.

The position requires flexibility to work 8-hour shifts on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays, with health and safety compliance as a priority. Candidates with Safe Food Handler certification or willingness to obtain it are preferred.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Prepare and serve meals and snacks.
• Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, utensils, and dining area including chairs and tables.
• Daily temperature checks.
• Assist in receiving and storing food supplies and kitchen inventory.
• Monitor stock levels and report shortages to Team Leader/Senior.
• Ensure proper labeling and rotation of food items to prevent spoilage.
• Follow safe food handling procedures to avoid contamination.
• Provide courteous and friendly service to patients, residents, clients, and staff.
• Assist with meal delivery to client rooms or designated areas.
• Education component throughout the year, Health and Safety training, policy and procedures.

Position Summary

As an Aide, you will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including assisting in meal preparation and service, maintaining kitchen and dining area cleanliness, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.

Accountability

As a crucial member of our team, the Aide - Dietary reports directly to the designated Supervisor –Client Services and Senior staff assigned to the Dietary department.

Qualifications

• Persons of First Nations ancestry will be given preference (OHRC, Part II, Special Employment).


• The ability to communicate in one of the First Nations dialects in the Sioux Lookout Zone is an asset.


• Written and oral communication skills acceptable to the employer that meet the requirements of the role of Aide.


• Experience in food service, hospitality or customer service would be an asset.


• Safe Food Handler Certification or capable of completing online certification upon date of hire.


• Must have the flexibility to work all shifts.


• Must be an independent and self-motivated worker.


• Ability to follow written and oral instructions.


• Good communication and interpersonal skills.


• The ability to perform the requirements of the position on a regular basis.

• Report any equipment malfunctions or safety hazards to the Team Leader / Senior.


• Provide courteous and friendly service to patients, residents, clients, and staff.


• Assist with meal delivery to client rooms or other designated areas as needed.


• Education component throughout the year, Health and Safety, policy and procedures, workshops, etc.


• Other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

• It will involve exposure to heat, cold, and various kitchen equipment.


• It will require working evenings, weekends, and holidays.


• Considerable standing, lifting, pulling, pushing and bending.


• Frequently required to lift to 20 lbs.
