Job summary

The Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority (SLFNHA) is hiring a Part-Time Aide – Dietary in Sioux Lookout, Ontario. You will assist in meal preparation, service, and maintaining a clean kitchen and dining area in compliance with health and safety regulations.

Reporting to the Supervisor – Client Services and Senior Dietary staff, you will support food handling, portion control, and patient-focused service, with occasional education and training activities.

Qualifications

  • First Nations ancestry preference is noted.
  • Ability to communicate in one of the First Nations dialects is an asset.
  • Written and oral communication must meet job requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and serve meals and snacks.
  • Ensure proper portion control.
  • Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, utensils, and dining areas.
  • Daily temperature checks.
  • Assist in receiving and storing food supplies and inventory.
  • Monitor stock levels and report shortages to the Team Leader.
  • Label and rotate food items to prevent spoilage.
  • Follow food handling procedures to avoid contamination.
  • Be flexible with the job routine and adapt to changes.
  • Protect health and safety, use PPE, report hazards.
  • Provide courteous service to patients, residents, clients, and staff.
  • Assist with meal delivery to client rooms as needed.
  • Education components on health and safety and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Experience in food service, hospitality or customer service is an asset.
  • Safe Food Handler Certification or ability to complete online certification.

Job Type: Part-Time Permanent
Location: Sioux Lookout, Ontario
Rate of Pay: Hourly $ 23.794 – $31.959
Hours of Work: 28 hours per week; must be available to work differing 8-hour shifts on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays.

Position Summary

As an Aide, you will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including assisting in meal preparation and service, maintaining kitchen and dining area cleanliness, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.

Accountability

As a crucial member of our team, the Aide – Dietary reports directly to the designated Supervisor –Client Services and Senior staff assigned to the Dietary department.

Qualifications
  • Persons of First Nations ancestry will be given preference (OHRC, Part II, Special Employment).
  • The ability to communicate in one of the First Nations dialects in the Sioux Lookout Zone is an asset.
  • Written and oral communication skills acceptable to the employer that meet the requirements of the role of Aide.
Roles & Responsibilities
  • Prepare and serve meals and snacks
  • Ensure proper portion control.
  • Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, utensils, work areas, including the dining area chairs and tables.
  • Daily temperature checks.
  • Assist in receiving and storing food supplies and kitchen inventory.
  • Monitor stock levels and report shortages to the Team Leader / Senior.
  • Ensure proper labelling and rotation of food items to prevent spoilage.
  • Follow appropriate food handling procedures to avoid contamination.
  • To be flexible in the job routine and be challenged by new requests and ongoing changes to the job as delegated by the Team Leader / Senior.
  • Responsible for taking reasonable care to protect the health and safety of yourself and others, by practicing and promoting safe work habits by using personal protective equipment and reporting unsafe acts or conditions to your manager.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions or safety hazards to the Team Leader / Senior.
  • Provide courteous and friendly service to patients, residents, clients, and staff.
  • Assist with meal delivery to client rooms or other designated areas as needed.
  • Education component throughout the year, Health and Safety, policy and procedures, workshops, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Experience in food service, hospitality or customer service would be an asset.
  • Safe Food Handler Certification or capable of completing online certification upon date of hire.
  • Must have the flexibility to work all shifts.
  • Must be an independent and self-motivated worker.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to perform the requirements of the position on a regular basis.
Working Conditions
  • It will involve exposure to heat, cold, and various kitchen equipment.
  • It will require working evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Considerable standing, lifting, pulling, pushing and bending.
  • Frequently required to lift to 20 lbs.
