Job summary

Systematix is seeking an AI Technical Lead for a public sector client in Ottawa, Canada. This 1-year contract with extension potential starts January 2027 and requires an active Government of Canada Reliability (Level I) clearance.

You will lead AI initiatives, design AI-enabled solutions using Azure, Dynamics 365 and Power Platform, integrate with REST APIs, and guide cross‑functional teams toward secure, scalable software delivery.

Qualifications

• University degree in computer science, software engineering, IT or engineering.
• Professional training or certification in Microsoft Azure, Power Platform, Dynamics 365, AI, cloud architecture or software development.
• Minimum 5 years in software development, solution architecture or technical leadership.
• Minimum 2 years applying AI or generative AI capabilities to applications or processes.
• Minimum 3 years with Microsoft cloud or related development technologies.

Responsibilities

• Provide subject matter expertise to adopt AI in software development, testing, deployment and support.
• Design and develop AI-enabled solutions and integrations with Microsoft technologies and APIs.
• Prototype and evaluate emerging AI technologies for practical use cases.
• Explore generative AI, AI agents and AI-assisted development in workflows.
• Identify opportunities to apply AI to software testing, DevOps, deployment and monitoring.
• Establish reusable technical approaches and components for adoption across applications.
• Collaborate with developers, testers, architects, product owners and stakeholders.
• Assess AI solutions from architecture, security, privacy, reliability and maintainability perspectives.
• Provide technical guidance and knowledge transfer to the Scrum team.
• Monitor AI developments and recommend relevant technologies.

We are Systematix and we are currently seeking an AI Technical Lead for an opportunity with a public sector client. The ideal candidate must hold an active Government of Canada Reliability (Level I) security clearance. This is a 1-year contract with possibility for extension, expected to start in January 2027.

About the Responsibilities

• Provide subject matter expertise to support the team’s adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI), identifying practical ways to enhance software development, testing, deployment and ongoing application support.
• Design and develop AI-enabled solutions and integrations, including capabilities that complement applications built using Microsoft Dynamics 365, Power Platform, Azure and API-based architectures.
• Prototype and evaluate emerging AI technologies, and apply promising developments into practical use cases and solutions for the Scrum team.
• Explore the use of generative AI, AI agents and AI-assisted development tools within software engineering workflows.
• Identify opportunities to apply AI to software testing and quality engineering, including test design, test automation, defect analysis and other engineering activities.
• Explore opportunities to improve DevOps and software deployment processes through AI-assisted automation.
• Establish reusable technical approaches, patterns and components to enable successful experiments to be adopted consistently across applications.
• Collaborate with developers, testers, architects, product owners and other stakeholders to ensure AI solutions integrate effectively with existing applications and engineering practices.
• Support the assessment of AI solutions from architectural, security, privacy, reliability and maintainability perspectives before they are introduced into production.
• Provide technical guidance and knowledge transfer to the Scrum team to build and strengthen its AI capabilities.
• Monitor developments in AI and recommend relevant technologies that could enhance applications and software delivery processes.

About the Qualifications

• University degree or college diploma in computer science, software engineering, information technology or engineering.
• Professional training or certification in one or more relevant areas, including Microsoft Azure, Power Platform, Dynamics 365, Artificial Intelligence (AI), cloud architecture, or software development.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in software development, solution architecture, or technical leadership within an enterprise application development environment.
• A minimum of 2 years of experience designing, developing, prototyping, evaluating, or integrating artificial intelligence or generative AI capabilities into applications or software engineering processes.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience with Microsoft cloud or application technologies, including Microsoft Azure, Dynamics 365, Power Platform, or related Microsoft development technologies.
• Experience designing or integrating solutions using REST APIs, SDKs, cloud services, or other application integration technologies.
• Experience working within a multidisciplinary Agile/Scrum software development team and providing technical leadership, subject matter expertise, or knowledge transfer to developers, testers, architects, product owners, or other technical stakeholders.
• Experience applying automation, AI-enabled tools, or emerging technologies to improve at least two areas of the software development lifecycle, such as software development, testing, quality engineering, DevOps, deployment, application support, or operational monitoring.
• Technical knowledge and hands‑on capability with Generative AI and large language models, including the development, prototyping, evaluation, or integration of AI-enabled capabilities.
• Ability to develop and integrate cloud-based applications and solutions using Microsoft Azure and related Azure services.
• Ability to develop and integrate solutions using Microsoft Dynamics 365 and/or Power Platform, including application development or integration with external systems.
• Knowledge of Modern software engineering practices, including source control, automated testing, CI/CD and DevOps.
• Ability to apply AI-assisted software development tools and techniques, such as GitHub Copilot or equivalent technologies.
• Knowledge of Enterprise solution architecture considerations, including security, privacy, reliability, maintainability and supportability.

Pay Disclosure

The average hourly pay range for this field is as follows:

• Junior: 0-5 years of experience - $40-75/hr
• Intermediate: 6-9 years of experience - $60-100/hr
• Senior: 10+ years of experience - $90-150/hr

Compensation is commensurate with these standards; exceptions may apply based on experience, skills, and market conditions.
