Job description

Location: Toronto, Ontario

Most designers have never had to answer the question at the centre of this role: what does an interface look like when the software reasons on its own and a person has to decide whether to trust it?

You will be the design lead on a rebuild of an investigative analysis platform used by law enforcement and forensic teams. Today an investigator can lose days inside one device dump, cross-referencing conversations that were deliberately written to be hard to follow. The product's job is to compress that work without ever letting the user mistake a machine's suggestion for a settled fact. Getting that line right is a design problem before it is an engineering one, and it is yours.

You will run discovery as the UX authority in the room, then take it all the way through flows, wireframes, prototypes and production-ready assets. You will show your work to client stakeholders directly and defend the reasoning. You will design the moments that matter most in agentic software: where the system explains itself, where it shows uncertainty, where it asks permission, and where a human has to be able to step in and override it.

The pod is small and cross-functional, so you will work shoulder to shoulder with product and engineering rather than throwing files over a wall, and you will mentor other designers as the team grows. Expect a year end deadline and real users on the other side of it.

Toronto based, in the office.

Must Have Skills:

Three to five years in product design or UX and UI. An AI-first way of working, genuinely comfortable building AI tools into your own process. Strong Figma and modern design tooling. A portfolio that shows the thinking, not just the screens. Fluent across user flows, wireframes, mockups and prototypes. Experience presenting to senior stakeholders, ideally from a consulting or agency setting. Able to anchor a project with minimal direction. Toronto onsite. Must clear a background check.

Nice to Have Skills:

Design for data-dense or investigative tools where the user is analysing rather than browsing. Any prior work on agentic or AI-assisted interfaces, particularly explainability, confidence display, or human-in-the-loop approval patterns. News media, sports media or mobile banking backgrounds, all of which the client has hired from before. Regulated or high-assurance environments. Mentoring or design leadership. Existing security clearance, or TribalScale experience within the last three months, either of which removes weeks from onboarding.
