How You’ll Make an Impact?

The Agency Support Worker – Casual provides flexible, responsive frontline support across Bissell Centre programs and services based on operational needs. Casual staff may provide coverage within programs such as Hope Terrace, Supportive Recovery Housing, Extreme Weather Shuttle Response, and other agency programs or initiatives requiring additional frontline support.

The position supports continuity of services by providing coverage for staff absences, vacancies, increased service demands, emergency or seasonal responses, and other emerging operational needs. Depending on the assignment, responsibilities may include supporting participants within a residential or supportive housing environment, responding to immediate needs, providing transportation or community-based support, promoting safety and well-being, and connecting participants with appropriate resources and services.

The Agency Support Worker – Casual works from a person-centred, trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and harm reduction approach while maintaining professional boundaries and contributing to safe, respectful, and welcoming environments. Casual staff are expected to adapt to different teams, participant needs, service environments, and program models while maintaining consistent standards of professionalism, communication, documentation, safety, and participant care.

Assignments are based on organizational need as well as the employee’s training, experience, and demonstrated competencies for the specific program or service area.

  • Build respectful and professional relationships with participants using person-centred, trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and recovery approaches that promote safety, dignity, choice, and well-being.
  • Engage with participants to identify immediate needs, goals, barriers, and appropriate supports, completing required assessments and documentation using agency-approved tools and databases, including Starting Point, ORBIT, SPDAT, Provincial Assessments, and other applicable systems.
  • Implement individualized care, support, safety, or recovery strategies in collaboration with the participant and designated care or program team.
  • Provide practical assistance that promotes stability, independence, accountability, and overall well-being, including support with daily living skills, hygiene, apartment maintenance, pest management, appointments, transportation, community integration, and navigation of social service systems.
