Job summary

GFL Environmental Inc. is seeking an Equipment Operator/AZ Driver to support land application of municipal biosolids and trucking between client sites in Ontario. The role requires AZ licensing, a clean driving record, and the ability to operate field and industrial equipment safely.

Responsibilities include loading/unloading, performing routine inspections, and ensuring compliance with environmental and safety policies. A strong focus on teamwork and customer service is essential.

Qualifications

  • Three years driver/operator experience preferred.
  • AZ license and clean abstracts/CVOR required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and move equipment between client sites.
  • Load and unload trucks; transport biosolids between sites.
  • Complete pre/post trip inspections and required paperwork.
  • Adhere to environmental and Health & Safety policies and procedures.
  • Follow WMHIS and MTO regulations.

As an Equipment Operator, you will be responsible for assisting in the land application of Municipal biosolids during the months of April through November. Responsibilities include running agriculture equipment, pumps and industrial equipment such as a field tractor. As an AZ Operator, you will provide transportation services between customer sites in an acceptable and safe manner. Responsibilities include loading trucks and transporting biosolids..

Key Accountabilities when driving
  • Operate motorized vehicles to move material between client sites

  • Prior experience operating a tanker is an asset

  • Accurately complete numerous and various documents, including pre/post trip inspections, manifests, log books, VCRs, etc., in a legible manner to meet compliance requirements

  • Ensure that all equipment and systems are operated as per GFL standards

  • Knowledge of Reg. 347/558, WMHIS, MTO regulations

  • Standard shift is Monday to Friday with flexible daytime hours

  • Drivers are required to adhere to all Environmental and Health & Safety policies and procedures

  • Perform other duties assigned

Key Accountabilities when doing field work
  • Load and unload trucks

  • Spread materials

  • Operate tillage tools including tractors and the use of discs

  • Knowledge of farming practices and the Nutrient Management Regulation

  • Willing to obtain required licensing

  • Other duties as assigned

Experience, Qualifications & Education
  • Three (3) years of driver/operator experience is preferred

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Must possess an AZ license and submit current abstracts, personal and CVOR (no demerits)

  • Must have solid written communication skills in order to complete required paperwork

  • Must have exceptional verbal communication skills to be able to interact with internal and external customers

  • Prior experience operating heavy machinery typical within a mining environment, including farm in an agricultural environment is a definite asset. However, we are willing to train potential candidates who demonstrate a willingness to learn

  • Must be able to exercise good judgment and think proactively

  • Excellent customer service skills, with strong work ethic and positive attitude
