Job summary

Family ServicesofGreater Vancouver is seeking an Afterhours Youth Support Worker in Vancouver, BC. This hourly position supports unhoused or at-risk youth, ages 24 and under, dealing with complex issues including substance use, mental health challenges, neurodiversity, and exploitation.

The role emphasizes a trauma-informed, client-led approach within a multidisciplinary team, with shifts seven days a week and a focus on safety, engagement, and compassionate care.

Qualifications

• Working within the mission, vision, values, and person-centred philosophy of the Agency, the Afterhours program works to support youth experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness in the 24-hour Directions Youth Services Centre.
• The Youth Support Worker – Afterhours position is an hourly role that serves youth who are unhoused, precariously housed, or sleeping rough, 24 years of age and under, who struggle with substance use, face mental health challenges, are neurodiverse, are sexually exploited, have criminal involvement, and/or are in crisis.

Responsibilities

• Maintain safety of the space and ensure youth are safe and supported while in the space.
• Work with the team to support youth through crisis and provide person-centred assistance.

This position works alongside a team in maintaining the safety of the resource and ensuring youth are safe and supported while in the space. This position reports to the Afterhours Supervisor and Afterhours Assistant Manager. The position actively supports the Agency’s awareness and goals around diversity, inclusion, justice and equity.

Work Hours: Hourly staff are expected to take at least one shift per month.
