Job summary

Interior Community Services in Kamloops is seeking an Adult Living Support Worker for the River House program. You will support adults with diverse abilities in a home setting, implementing behavioral plans and promoting independence.

The role requires a Diploma in Human/Social Service or related field, 1 year of relevant experience (or combo with education), and a valid BC Class 4 license. Benefits include extensive health coverage and training opportunities.

Qualifications

• TB test clear; physical ability for personal care, mobility support, and transfers.
• Required training provided free: First Aid/CPR, Mandt-RCT, SafeTalk, Medication Management, privacy, food handling, anti-bullying.
• Union membership required; 1.85% dues deducted; background checks required.

Responsibilities

• Assess residents’ needs with caregivers and professionals to set goals.

Community Living Services Full Time Kamloops, BC $29.22 - $33.54 CAD per hour

• Diploma in Human/Social Service or another related field
• One (1) year of recent related experience working with adults with moderate to severe behavioural and developmental challenges
• Or a combination of education, training, and experience.
• Valid BC Class 4 Unrestricted Driver's License
• BC Class 5 DL is accepted with the condition of the ability to obtain a Valid Class 4 Unrestricted driver’s license within the 3 month probationary period. (Reimbursement available for the costs)
• A safe driving record
• Access to a reliable vehicle
• TB Testing showing free from tuberculosis
• Physical abilities to provide individuals with personal care and recreational activities indoors and outdoors. Including supporting individuals in wheelchairs and walkers, carrying, lifting, transferring, pushing, pulling, bending, assisting clients safely in and out of bed and bath, and using lifts, and other health equipment appropriately.
• The following training is required and provided to the successful candidate free of charge. Existing certification is an asset: Emergency First Aid with CPR, Mandt-RCT, SafeTalk, Medication Management, CLBC Privacy, Safe Food Handling, Anti-Bullying and Harassment.
• This position requires Union membership, and 1.85% union dues are deducted from each pay.
• Background checks through the BC Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General is required.

ABOUT THE JOB:

The Adult Living Support Worker provides care and support to adults with diverse abilities in a home setting. This role focuses on meeting the clients’ needs, implementing behavioral plans, and promoting their independence and well-being.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Collaborates with individuals, caregivers, and other community professionals to assess residents’ needs and develop and attain individual goals. Adjusts goals and strategies as required.
• Assesses personal care and health needs and performs care as required.
• Provides activities that support residents’ independence and encourage meaningful community connections.
• Provides healthy meals and snacks, ensuring the specific dietary needs of the individuals are met.
• Manages general household chores, including meal planning and prep, shopping, laundry, yard maintenance, and basic repairs.
• Administer medication following the agency procedures.
• Supports residents to advocate for themselves and liaises with social workers, community resources, family, etc.
• Teaches relationship-building skills while fostering self-esteem, self-advocacy, and healthy lifestyle choices.
• Supports residents in managing their personal finances as needed.
• Schedule appointments and transport clients using the program accessibility van. (medical, optical, and dental appointments, family visits, recreational outings, etc.)
• Recognize and respond to potential risks and emergency situations to minimize harm to clients, staff, and/or the public. Takes proactive measures to prevent potential escalations.
• Manages the residential budget, including clear and accurate documentation of petty cash and spending.
• Maintains daily client information and activity logs.
• Ensures that required documentation is complete, timely, and accurate.

Demonstrated knowledge and strong abilities to:

• Work effectively with individuals with moderate to several behavioural and developmental challenges, including individuals on the Autism spectrum.
• Build healthy, trusting relationships with all involved parties, including the individual, colleagues, supervisors, community professionals, care teams, and family members
• Respond appropriately to challenging behaviours, crisis situations, and aggression
• Provide life skills support using a strengths-based approach
• Develop and implement client-focused schedules, plans, and goal-setting methods

STATUS: Full-Time

HOURS of WORK: 37.4 hours per week on average

SCHEDULE: 4 on 2 off afternoons, rotation: 4 pm to 12 am for 2 days and 3 pm to 11 pm for 2 days

COMPENSATION: $29.22-$33.54 per hour (Grid 11 as per collective agreement)
