Job summary

Ottawa Catholic School Board is seeking a Term English as a Second Language Instructor to support our ESL day school program at St. Joseph Adult HS. The role reports to the Manager, Continuing & Community Education in collaboration with the LINC Coordinator.

Typical hours are Monday to Friday, totaling 23 hours per week; the salary is $43.22 per hour plus vacation and statutory holiday pay. TESL Ontario certification and PBLA familiarity are required or demonstrated through prior work.

Qualifications

• Valid TESL Ontario Certification or proof of accreditation.
• Previous ESL teaching experience with CLB levels.
• Demonstrated experience using PBLA with learners.
• Proven ability to integrate learning technologies into instruction.
• Collaborative, cross-cultural instructional design skills.

We are looking for a Term English as a Second Language Instructor to support our ESL day school program. This position reports to the Manager, Continuing & Community Education in collaboration with the LINC Coordinator in the program.

Anticipated Locations/Assignments

Location: St. Joseph Adult HS

Assignment:

• LINC Literacy -Monday to Friday 9:00am-12:00pm
• CLB 1-Tuesdays/Wednesdays 12:30pm - 3:30 pm, Thursdays 12:30pm to 2:30 pm

Total Hours: 23 per week

The assignment involves :

• Using various tools/apps to teach language skills in person or online
• Create content for the specific curricula that is appropriate to the CLB levels of the course
• Implement and help track learner skills and progress
• Ability to interact occasionally at a professional level as a representative of the Continuing Education department with other departments and various administrative staff, if required
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

• Valid TESL Ontario Certification or proof of TESL Ontario accreditation through the PLAR process or grandfathering by OCSB and be a member in good standing
• Previous general ESL teaching experience with various CLB or CLB Literacy levels
• Demonstrated strong expertise in using learning technologies effectively to teach various CLB levels to adults (include specific examples and describe in your CV and/or letter of application)
• Proven understanding and experience using PBLA with learners
• Proven collaboration, cross-cultural, and instructional design planning skills

Any of the following are considered assets:

• PBLA Lead certification
• Certified to use Avenue.ca and experience in HARTs

Candidates will be selected on the basis of their qualifications and experience.

The salary for this position is $43.22 an hour (plus 4% vacation pay and 3.8% statutory holiday pay).

The expected end date for this position is December 18, 2026.
