Administrative Support 3 - $1,742.83 to $2,205.23 bi-weekly ($24.04 - $30.42/hour or $45,487.86 - $57,556.50/year)
Administrative Support 4 - $1,918.46 to $2,427.46 bi-weekly ($26.46 - $33.48/hour or $50,071.81 - $63,356.71/year)

Administrative support positions within the GOA support a broad range of operational areas. Responsibilities may focus on a specific function or span multiple administrative support categories across the following areas:

1. Program Support

Program support roles serve as a first point of contact for the public, responding to inquiries by phone, email, or in person, and providing information on program requirements, processes, and eligibility in accordance with established policies and procedures.

  • Contract and Grant Administrator
  • AISH Application Assessor
  • Licensing Assistant
  • Children's Services Administrative Support
  • Employment, Training and Financial Administrative Support
2. Office and Administrative Support

Provide a wide variety of administrative support services which may include drafting and formatting correspondence, managing records, completing data entry, maintaining calendars, and coordinating office supplies.
Examples:

  • Office Administrator
  • Data Entry Clerk

Provide financial and administrative support by processing and reviewing financial documents related to expenditures, reconciliations, petty cash, and other routine financial transactions, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established procedures.
Examples:

  • Accounts Payable/Accounts Receivable Administrator
  • Revenue Administrator
  • Payments Clerk
4. Call Centre Support

Provide information and handle public inquiries regarding major government announcements, public consultation initiatives or major incidents such as a natural disaster or pandemic.
Example:

  • Information Officer

Ensure completion and compliance within applicable legislation, regulations and policies, and provides a range of support to Crown Prosecutors, the Court of King's Bench, or the Criminal Justice and Corrections systems and staff.
Examples:

  • Litigation Assistant
  • Case Aide
6. Human Resource Support

Support human resources operations through scheduling coordination, preparation and distribution of materials, accurate data entry, and assistance with tracking, reporting, and administrative processes.
Examples:

  • Classification Assistant
7. Social Services Support

Provide administrative support to front‑line social service programs serving seniors, children and youth, and vulnerable populations. Responsibilities include responding to inquiries from the public and stakeholders, directing them to appropriate government offices and resources, and managing forms and records containing highly sensitive information.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • Administrative Support 3 - High School diploma plus a minimum of one year of related administrative experience.
  • Administrative Support 4 - High School diploma plus a minimum of two years of related administrative experience.

Equivalencies will be considered based on 1 year of experience for 1 year of education or 1 year of education for 1 year of experience.

Assets:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Experience using software applications and common enterprise systems such as 1GX, SharePoint, Adobe Acrobat, Justice Online Information Network (JOIN), Offender Records and Correctional Administration (ORCA), Inactive Records Information System (IRIS), Action Request Tracking System (ARTS), Records Scheduling System (RSS), Motor Vehicle Electronic System and QuickBooks etc
  • Demonstrated organizational, time-management, and prioritization abilities supported by excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to follow established policies, procedures, and standardized administrative processes
  • Experience delivering customer service in public-facing or internal support roles, including working in high-volume or deadline-driven environments
  • Ability to build effective working relationships while providing support to senior leaders, managers, boards, and professional staff
  • Experience preparing and managing accurate correspondence and documents, as well as coordinating meetings, agendas, and minutes
  • Experience handling confidential or sensitive information, including document control and records management practices
  • Experience providing administrative support within government, public sector, or large organizations
  • This competition will be used to create a list of qualified candidates to fill upcoming administrative support opportunities across the Government of Alberta
  • Once online applications have been submitted, candidates are screened based on the Minimum Recruitment Standards (MRS) for Administrative Support 3 and Administrative Support 4 positions
  • Interviews will be based on operational requirements and candidate location availability
  • Candidates who are successful in the assessment process will be placed in the Administrative Talent Pool and considered pre-qualified for a period of up to 12 months
  • Pre-qualified candidates may be referred to hiring managers to fill Administrative Support 3 and 4 vacancies as opportunities arise
  • Please note that being assessed as qualified and added to the Administrative Talent Pool does not guarantee an offer of employment. Candidates may be contacted based on hiring needs, location availability, and role specific requirements
  • Successful candidates may be required to undergo security screening. Some positions require a Level 2 Enhanced Security screening (including an enhanced criminal record check to be completed along with a credit check) as part of pre‑employment checks
  • Any costs associated with obtaining required documents/security checks or interview travel expenses, will be the responsibility of the candidate. Out-of-province applicants can obtain the required documents/security checks from the province they currently reside in

For wage opportunities:

  • As a Wage employee, you receive 11.6% in addition to regular wage earnings in lieu of paid holidays and vacation leave:
  • 5.6 percent of regular wage earnings instead of paid holidays
  • 6 percent of regular wage earnings instead of annual vacation pay
