Job summary

BayCare Health System, a leading healthcare network in Tampa Bay, seeks an Acute Care Physical Therapist for St. Joseph’s Hospital. The role focuses on evaluating acute-care patients and delivering evidence-based therapies to restore function and independence.

You will collaborate with physicians, nurses, and therapy teams, participate in rounds, and contribute to discharge planning while maintaining safety and quality standards. Location is St. Joseph’s Main Hospital - Tampa, FL.

Qualifications

• Active BLS certification required.
• Licensed Physical Therapist or eligible to obtain licensure.
• Bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy.
• One year of physical therapy experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive physical therapy evaluations for acute-care patients.
• Develop and implement individualized, evidence-based treatment plans.
• Provide interventions including therapeutic exercise, mobility training, gait training, balance activities, and education.
• Document evaluations, treatments, progress notes, and discharge recommendations.
• Communicate with physicians, nurses, case managers, and other therapists.
• Collaborate on discharge planning and durable medical equipment recommendations.
• Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and clinical decision-making.
• Maintain compliance with safety, infection prevention, and quality standards.
• Mentor, onboard, and collaborate with therapy assistants and students.

Acute Care Physical Therapist Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive physical therapy evaluations for acute-care patients, including those with orthopedic, neurological, cardiopulmonary, medical/surgical, and trauma-related conditions.
• Develop and implement individualized, evidence-based treatment plans focused on restoring function, mobility, and independence.
• Provide interventions including therapeutic exercise, functional mobility training, gait training, balance activities, and patient/caregiver education.
• Document evaluations, daily treatments, progress notes, and discharge recommendations in accordance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
• Communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, case managers, respiratory therapy, occupational therapy, and other members of the care team.
• Collaborate on discharge planning, including recommending appropriate next levels of care and durable medical equipment.
• Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and contribute to clinical decision-making.
• Maintain compliance with departmental safety procedures, infection prevention practices, and quality standards.
• Support mentorship, onboarding, and collaboration with therapy assistants and students as applicable.

Requirements

• Required BLS (Basic Life Support)
• Required PT (Physical Therapy)
• Or PT (Physical Therapy) Eligible to obtain
• Or PT (Physical Therapy) Temporary and licensure within 6 months
• Required Bachelor's Physical Therapy
• Preferred 1 year Physical Therapist

Location: St Josephs Main Hospital - Tampa, FL

Status: Full Time, Exempt: No

Shift Hours: 4 10-hours alternate Wed - Sat/Tues - Fri

Shift: Days

Weekend Work: Every Other

On Call: No
