Job summary

Echelon Insurance is seeking an Actuarial student to gain exposure to Pricing, Corporate or Business Intelligence/Analytics in Mississauga and Montreal offices.

As an enrolled student, you will support data extraction, reserve reviews and financial reporting, while contributing to IFRS 17 and rate analyses. Strong programming sense and bilingual communication are valued as you collaborate across teams.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a post-secondary education with a focus on Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics or related program.
• Familiarity with Excel, VBA, Python, SAS, SQL or other programming languages is an asset.
• Must be adaptable, proactive and autonomous.
• Advanced English is required in addition to French for regular communications with clients and teams.

Responsibilities

• Run data extraction applications and analyze results for corporate projects.
• Contribute to monthly reserve reviews and analyze claims diagnostics.
• Prepare liability estimations for senior management review.
• Assist in month-end financial reporting and capital management initiatives.
• Support IFRS 17 projects and other regulatory requirements.
• Develop data extraction tools and intelligent reports for decision-making across teams.
• Assist underwriting and other departments as needed.
• Conduct ad-hoc analyses to support business units.

Reporting to an Actuarial Manager, the Actuarial student will work closely with other Actuarial Associates, Senior Management and other stakeholders in our Mississauga and Montreal offices. This position will provide the candidate with exposure to one of the following disciplines: Pricing, Corporate or Business Intelligence/Analytics.

Work term responsibilities will vary depending on the department you will be working for:

Corporate:

• Run applications for data extraction and analyze the results
• Contribute to monthly reserve reviews and analyze claims diagnostics
• Prepare an estimation of the liabilities to be reviewed with senior management
• Assist in month-end financial reporting
• Support Financial Condition Testing (FCT), Own Risk and Solvency Assessment (ORSA) and other capital management initiatives
• Contribute to special projects such as IFRS 17
• Understand data, maintain and develop programs for data extraction and analyze the results
• Assist with monitoring our portfolios for profitability and growth, and communicating insights
• Assist with developing actuarial indications and underlying assumptions
• Support other departments, such as underwriting
• Contribute to special projects such as rate filings, rate/product reviews, and competitive analysis
• Build and maintain profitability/growth/segmentation models to predict customer cost and behavior
• Update/improve/maintain data relied upon by the Actuarial Department
• Help in the development of tools and intelligent reports to other teams, allowing for better decision-making throughout the company
• Conduct ad-hoc analyses to support business units' needs, and regulatory requirements

• Enrolled in a post-secondary educational institution with a focus on Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics or any other related program.

• Must be adaptable, proactive and autonomous
• An advanced level of English is required in addition to French, as this role involves regular communication, both verbal and written, with our clients, partners, and other Echelon Insurance teams across the country.
