Salary: At Wawanesa, salary is only one component of a holistic, comprehensive and competitive offering that we provide to our employees. The salary offered for this role is determined with consideration to various factors, including but not limited to: your work location, local labour market conditions, external market salary data, internal pay equity and the knowledge, skills, experience and anticipated proficiency in the role. The salary offered is estimated to be within the following range: $95,000- $140,000. Candidates with salary expectations outside of the range are still encouraged to apply.

The Commercial Auto Pricing team plays a key role in supporting the achievement of all Commercial Automobile financial goals at Wawanesa nationally. With a strong grasp of ratemaking concepts, the Actuarial Consultant/Senior Actuarial Consultant is responsible for applying actuarial and insurance expertise to develop automobile rating plans, enhancing segmentation, uncovering and addressing complex business problems, and collaborating with our business partners to deliver strategic priorities.

Note: we are open to hiring at either the Actuarial Consultant or Senior Actuarial Consultant level

Job Responsibilities

  • Researches, extracts, and manipulates complex data from relevant sources, and assesses data quality.
  • Supports the business and overall team by performing analyses/reviews and completing ad-hoc requests/special projects in a timely manner with minimal support from peers and leaders.
  • Leverages internal and external data and insights to design rate review approaches that enhance pricing sophistication.
  • Leads projects from beginning to end. Includes implementation of final product. May include training and documentation of the project.
  • Builds trust and credibility with peers. Develops strong working relationships across teams.
  • Provides feedback, instruction, and development guidance to help others excel in their current or future job responsibilities.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or other related discipline
  • More than four years of actuarial experience an asset
  • 7 CAS exams or ACAS designation an asset
  • Advanced knowledge of actuarial science, mathematics, probability, statistics, principles of finance and business, and strong ability to apply this knowledge to problems in insurance
  • Ability to proactively identify issues and initiate actions
  • Strong attention to detail when performing analysis with minimal technical errors
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, demonstrating the ability to convey complex business and actuarial terminology and insights that are meaningful to and well received by the intended audience
  • Proficiency with Excel, SQL, R, and/or other related software/programming languages
  • Experience with WTW Radar, Emblem, and/or Classifier an asset
  • Experience in Commercial Auto Pricing, including IRCA, Fleet, and/or Garage, as well as familiarity with the regulatory environment, an asset
