Job summary

Cogir Senior Living in Ottawa, Ontario is seeking an Active Living Aide to assist in planning, organizing and implementing meaningful programs for residents, under the Active Living Manager. You will help organize activities, support meal services, and maintain records as part of a compassionate care team.

Ideal candidates have a college diploma in recreation/gerontology, experience with seniors, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• College diploma in Recreation, Leisure Studies, Gerontology or equivalent is required.
• Previous experience working with seniors.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Energetic, compassionate person who enjoys working with the elderly.
• Must provide a complete and current Vulnerable Sector Check or be willing to obtain one.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning, organization and implementation of meaningful programs for residents, in collaboration with the Active Living Manager & Executive Director.
• Assist with maintenance of department records including assessments and evaluations of planned programs.
• Maintain effective communication with residents, families, volunteers and staff about events.
• Attend in-service education to stay informed on elder care trends.
• Participate in team meetings to plan programs based on residents' interests.
• Facilitate residents to scheduled and pre-arranged outings.
• Assist with assessment of individual resident activity levels.
• Prepare, carry out and evaluate daily activities.
• Assist with meal services as required.
• Work in a position of trust with vulnerable adults (residents);
• Support the front desk by providing break coverage for receptionists.
• Uphold the organization’s values relating to ethics, morality and integrity.
• Complete other duties as assigned.

Reporting to the Active Living Manager, the Active Living Aide assists in the planning, organization and implementation of meaningful programs for the residents.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in the planning, organization and implementation of meaningful programs for the residents, in collaboration with the Active Living Manager & Executive Director;
• Assists with the maintenance of appropriate department records including assessments, evaluations of planned programs detailing individual participation, charting;
• Maintains effective communication and good human relations with residents, families, volunteers and staff of other departments, keeping them informed of current and upcoming events;
• Attends in-service education in order to keep informed of current trends in the total care of the elderly;
• Participates in team meetings to plan programs with residents’ interest in mind;
• Facilitating residents to scheduled and pre-arranged outings;
• Assisting with assessment of individual resident activity levels;
• Preparing, carrying out and evaluating daily activities;
• Assisting with meal services as required;
• Working in a position of trust with vulnerable adults (residents);
• Supporting the front desk by providing break coverage for receptionists;
• Upholding and promoting the organization’s values and philosophy relating particularly to ethics, morality, and integrity;
• Complete other duties as assigned.
