Job summary

Cogir Senior Living is seeking an Active Living Aide in Ottawa to help plan and deliver engaging programs for residents. You will work under the Active Living Manager and collaborate with the Executive Director to ensure meaningful activities and smooth daily operations.

The role requires a college diploma related to recreation or gerontology, experience with seniors, and proficiency in MS Office. A valid driver’s license and a clear Vulnerable Sector Check are also required.

Qualifications

• College diploma in Recreation, Leisure Studies, Gerontology or equivalent is required.
• Previous experience working with seniors is required.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) is required.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
• Energetic, compassionate person who enjoys working with the elderly is required.
• Valid provincial driver's license to transport residents by van (Class 4; Class F) is required.
• Must provide a Vulnerable Sector Check (or be willing to obtain one) within six months.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning, organization and implementation of meaningful programs for residents, in collaboration with the Active Living Manager & Executive Director.
• Maintain department records including assessments and evaluations of planned programs.
• Communicate with residents, families, volunteers and other staff; keep them informed of events.
• Attend in-service education to stay informed on elder care trends.
• Participate in team meetings to plan activities aligned with residents' interests.
• Facilitate residents in scheduled outings and assess activity levels.
• Prepare, carry out and evaluate daily activities; assist with meals as required.
• Work with residents with integrity and uphold organization values.

Reporting to the Active Living Manager, the Active Living Aide assists in the planning, organization and implementation of meaningful programs for the residents.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in the planning, organization and implementation of meaningful programs for the residents, in collaboration with the Active Living Manager & Executive Director;
• Assists with the maintenance of appropriate department records including assessments, evaluations of planned programs detailing individual participation, charting;
• Maintains effective communication and good human relations with residents, families, volunteers and staff of other departments, keeping them informed of current and upcoming events;
• Attends in-service education in order to keep informed of current trends in the total care of the elderly;
• Participates in team meetings to plan programs with residents' interest in mind;
• Facilitating residents to scheduled and pre-arranged outings;
• Assisting with assessment of individual resident activity levels;
• Preparing, carrying out and evaluating daily activities;
• Assisting with meal services as required;
• Work in a position of trust with vulnerable adults (residents);
• Uphold and promote the organization's values and philosophy relating particularly to ethics, morality, and integrity;
• Complete other duties as assigned.
