Job description

Acoustical Engineering Consultant (Designer)

BC V5T 3C2

Are you an early-career engineer looking for more than repetitive design work? Do you enjoy solving complex technical problems, working directly with clients, and building a career in consulting engineering? If so, we'd love to meet you.

At Aercoustics, you'll work alongside some of Canada's leading acoustical engineers on projects that shape how people experience buildings, performance spaces, transportation systems and communities. If you're naturally curious, enjoy working with clients, and thrive in a consulting environment where no two projects are the same, we'd love to meet you.

We’re an award-winning, national leader in consulting engineering services in the field of acoustics, noise and vibration. We work on varied and challenging projects, from noise reduction in transit systems, to world-class performance spaces for the Royal Conservatory of Music, to the research and development of tools that are changing our industry.

Now we’re looking for a talented individual to join us in the evolving role of Project Consultant (Designer) and we are hoping our search ends with you.

We’re Aercoustics Engineering Ltd., and this is where you belong.

Overview of Opportunity

You’ll join our growing Vancouver team, working primarily in Architectural Acoustics while collaborating with colleagues across Canada on Environmental Noise & Vibration projects.

You’ll work directly with clients, architects, developers and multidisciplinary engineering teams, giving you exposure to both the technical and relationship side of consulting.

This opportunity is ideal for an early-career engineer (0–3 years' experience) who is looking to accelerate their development in consulting engineering while learning from some of Canada's leading acoustical consultants. Your primary goal will be to assist our engineering team, and clients, in developing innovative solutions to a variety of acoustical, noise or vibration challenges. You will be involved in tasks such as sound and vibration measurements, preparation of design reports, preparation of models and calculations and other supporting tasks.

Success in this role isn't about already knowing acoustics, it's about being curious, asking great questions, communicating effectively, and having the drive to become an exceptional consultant. We'll teach you the technical side.

This is a full-time, permanent position. We’re a hybrid work model with remote work and in office as needed depending on project needs and current environment. We accommodate strong work-life flexibility at our company and believe that everyone is an adult. We focus on your outcomes, and you’ll be trusted to manage your time to maximize your impact and to also make yourself available for meetings and other internal events as needed.

Additionally, to make you more successful in your career at Aercoustics, you will be exposed to a diverse range of projects that will give you an excellent foundation in acoustics.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate has already experienced consulting engineering or related industries through internships, co-ops or 1–3 years in a work environment and is looking for a place where they can take on greater responsibility, build strong client relationships and develop expertise in a highly specialized discipline. You have excellent communication skills, an ability to learn and apply new theories and excellent teamwork skills. You are also incredibly curious and eager to always be learning. You should be comfortable within a flexible work schedule. As well, you are willing and able to travel as projects dictate, with access to a car and a valid drivers license. While the majority of our project sites are in BC, there is potential for travel outside the province, and in some cases outside Canada.

  • 0–3 years of experience in consulting engineering or a related engineering environment. Recent graduates with exceptional internship or co‑op experience are also encouraged to apply
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the confidence to interact professionally with clients and project teams.
  • Curious, proactive and eager to learn a highly specialized field of engineering.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced consulting environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Degree in Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel to project sites.

This isn't a role where you'll spend years working on one small piece of a project. From day one, you'll work directly with experienced consultants, contribute to client meetings, visit project sites, and help solve complex acoustic, noise and vibration challenges across a diverse portfolio of projects. Your primary focus will be Architectural Acoustics, with opportunities to gain experience in Environmental Noise & Vibration, giving you a broader consulting background than most early-career engineering roles. If you're looking for a place where you'll learn quickly, be trusted with meaningful responsibility, and build lasting client relationships, you'll fit right in.

Our team is talented and ambitious. You’ll appreciate the shared motivation to consistently do your best work.

We’re also a values‑driven group, and we hold one another accountable. You’ll fit here if you resonate with our values. Here are a few of them, taken from our Charter:

  • Innovate, Solve, Repeat – Every client requirement has its own nuance. As such everyone in the firm is tasked with making sure the work they produce, whether it is an engineering design, corporate policy or proposal, is pushing at the cutting edge so it helps solve a client need. In terms of this role it means using new and creative ways to promote our experience, highlight our innovative approach and underline our industry differentiators.
Compensation

We offer a competitive salary and performance bonuses according to our compensation framework. Once you’re comfortable here, you’ll have the opportunity to increase your salary as you exceed your clear targets.
