Job summary

SpringHill Suites Vaughan, part of Easton’s Group of Hotels, is seeking a hotelAccounts payable/cashier professional to join our Vaughan team. You will handle invoices, cash, and inventory processes, ensuring accuracy and timely month-end reporting.

The ideal candidate has 3 years of hotel accounting experience, college degree, and strong analytical and communication skills. This on-site position offers growth and employee benefits in Ontario.

Qualifications

• College or university graduate required.
• 3 years of experience in a similar hotel accounting role.
• Strong analytical, organizational and communication skills; detail-oriented.

Responsibilities

• Monitors proper use of the purchase order system and reports deviations to supervisor.
• Prepares hotel invoices in accounting software as approved by department heads and GM.
• Accurately accrues invoices and prepares month-end journal entries.
• Prepares tax reconciliations (HST, MAT) for controller’s approval.
• Manages cash floats and deposits; counts safes and verifies cash handling processes.
• Counts and verifies inventories: monthly Food & Beverage and quarterly operating supplies.
• Reviews ledgers to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
• Verifies daily revenue postings for room, restaurant, banquet, and other revenues.
• Audits daily cash and credit card deposits; reconciles with front office and bank records.
• Reconciles revenue from PMS to P&L; flags deviations from standards.

Performs accounts payable and general cashier’s functions, responsible for counting cash, prepares bank deposits and due backs. Assists in all operational inventories and ensures they are costed at the latest market values. Audits company’s daily revenue and ensures all ledgers are balanced.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Monitors full and proper use of the purchase order system alerting the direct supervisor to any deviations from procedures.
• Prepares the entry of hotel invoices into accounting software as approved by the Department Heads and General Manager.
• Accurately accrue invoices and prepare journal entries for month end reporting.
• Prepares tax reconciliation (HST, MAT, etc.) for controller’s approval.
• Responsible for property cash floats and deposits to safety deposit box including the issuance of individual cash floats to required staff, spot-checking and regular counting of floats/safes.
• Assist in counting and verifying inventories - Monthly Food & Beverage Inventory; Quarterly Operating Supplies Inventory.
• Reviews all ledgers and ensures accuracy.
• Verifies/audits daily revenue postings of the hotel - room revenue, restaurant & banquet revenue and other miscellaneous revenues such as guest laundry, in-room movies, parking, etc.
• Verifies/audits daily cash and credit card deposits, reconciling deposits against the front office system and bank records.
• Reconciles revenue from Property Management System to Profit & Loss Statement (Income Journal to Daily Revenue Report).
• Alerts the direct supervisor to deviations from standards & procedures as per company policy.
• Perform and carry out any other duties assigned by the manager.

Qualifications and Skills

• Education level -College or University graduate.
• Experience - 3 years of experience in a similar position.Hotel experience would be an asset.
• Personal characteristics -Ability to analyze; prioritize; delegate, attention to detail, Good organizational and communication skills.
• Other - Great Plains Dynamics or Net Suites preferred.
• Mathematical skills, including basic math.
• May be required to work nights, weekends, and/or holidays.
