Job summary

Catholic Christian Outreach is seeking an experienced Sr. Accounting Specialist to support the Finance & Properties Department in Ottawa.

You will coordinate accounts receivable, accounts payable and general ledger activities, contribute to budgeting, and help prepare regular financial statements with a focus on accuracy and internal controls. The role requires a bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting and 5+ years of finance operations experience, GAAP knowledge, and advanced Excel skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in finance operations.
  • Strong understanding of finance processes including AP, AR, payroll, budgeting, and reporting.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Solid understanding of GAAP.
  • Proficient in accounting software.
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, financial modeling).
  • Experience with financial statement preparation.
  • Attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

Catholic Christian Outreach is a young and dynamic Catholic movement dedicated to fulfilling the Church’s mission of evangelization on university campuses and beyond. The Finance & Properties Department plays a key role in establishing a strong foundation to support the fulfillment of this mission. The Sr. Accounting Specialist contributes to ensuring our fiscal responsibilities are upheld and aligned to serve the heart of our mission with integrity, professionalism and excellence.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Assist in the coordination and processing of Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable and General Ledger

  • Contribute to the national budget process

  • Assist with the preparation and analysis of regular financial statements

  • As requested, maintain & develop strong internal controls in keeping the Financial Edge database clean

  • Perform period-end procedures, as assigned

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS


  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Information Systems, or a related field.

  • 5+ years of experience in finance operations

  • Strong understanding of finance processes, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, budgeting, and reporting.

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Solid understanding of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles)

  • Proficient in accounting software

  • Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and financial modeling.

  • Experience with financial statement preparation.

  • Attention to detail and ability to work under tight deadlines

  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities .


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


  • Knowledge of compliance requirements related to financial operations

  • CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant) or other equivalent certifications

  • Experience with Blackbaud software solutions (Financial Edge, Raiser's Edge, etc.)

  • Experience in a senior or supervisory role.

  • Advanced knowledge of financial analysis and forecasting.

  • Experience with data analytics and business intelligence tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills.

  • Proactive, detail-oriented, and adaptable to a fast-changing environment.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to innovate.

  • Communication & Leadership: Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to lead, mentor, and collaborate with teams to meet financial goals.

  • Time Management & Ethical Integrity: Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, ensure compliance, maintain confidentiality, and drive continuous improvement in processes.

  • 40 hours a week: Generally 8:30am - 5:00pm

  • Some opportunities for flexible hours depend on the supervisor and the position's needs.

  • Occasional weekend and evening work will be required; flexibility in schedule may be required from time to time to accommodate program requirements.

  • Occasional Travel will be required


CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Maintain an active sacramental and spiritual life rooted in a growing relationship with Jesus Christ, committed to personal prayer, reading Scripture, regular confession, and Mass attendance
