Job summary

Clarity Recruitment is seeking an Accounting Manager for our client, a design, development, and construction firm in Canada. The role reports to the CFO and blends corporate and project accounting across multiple entities and active development sites.

You will own month-end close, intercompany accounting, and tax filings while driving internal controls and a QuickBooks Online rollout. This is a hands-on mandate offering direct CFO access and ownership from day one.

Qualifications

• Solid accounting fundamentals with the ability to explain the 'why' behind journal entries.
• Hands-on GST/HST reporting and Canadian corporate tax preparation experience.
• Comfort building financial models and expense forecasts for project-based businesses.
• Self-starting and able to work independently in a small, entrepreneurial environment with direct executive access.
• Strong communication skills and a track record of following through without oversight.

Responsibilities

• Own month-end close and financial statement preparation across multiple entities.
• Manage project accounting and job costing for active development sites.
• Build and document setup processes for new entities/projects (COA and job costing).
• Lead intercompany accounting across a growing multi-entity structure.
• Prepare Canadian corporate tax filings and GST/HST reporting; monitor rebate submissions.
• Oversee payroll processing with third-party provider.
• Develop KPI and variance reporting for management decisions.
• Build expense forecasts and pro forma models for new sites.
• Drive QuickBooks Online implementation and streamline systems.
• Establish accounting processes and internal controls where none exist.
• Partner with operations, project management, banking, estimating, legal, and tax teams.
