Job summary

Targeted Accounting is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to lead controllership and advisory engagements in a growth-focused environment.

You will oversee full-cycle accounting, mentor a bookkeeping team, and drive firm-wide improvements while strengthening client partnerships and operational scale.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business; CPA designation is a plus.
• 8+ years of accounting experience (ideally in a small/mid-sized firm or dynamic industry environment).
• Strong knowledge of full-cycle accounting, cash vs accrual, and intercompany transactions.
• Experience with QuickBooks Online, Xero, and Excel.
• Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and communication skills.
• Experience managing teams and reviewing final deliverables.
• Ability to manage both recurring engagements and project-based workstreams.

Responsibilities

About the Role

Targeted Accounting is growing — and we’re looking for an experienced, proactive Accounting Manager to lead our controllership and advisory engagements. This isn’t just another accounting role. You’ll lead key client relationships, drive high-impact projects, and collaborate with a motivated team that values accountability, continuous learning, and delivering real value. What You’ll Do

1) Oversee Client’s Controllership Functions and Year-End Preparation for External Accountant Engagements

• Take ownership of controllership projects from kickoff to delivery.
• Assess client needs and pain points, review current processes/policies/controls, and build actionable project plans with clear milestones and delegated tasks.
• Oversee full-cycle accounting: bookkeeping, AP/AR, payroll (and compliance), GST/HST, and reconciliations.
• Review and analyze the existing chart of accounts and financial reports (including consolidated statements), ensuring compliance with ASPE or IFRS standards; prepare cash flow forecasts and budgets.
• Review and finalize year-end deliverables/working papers for external accountants.
• Drive value by recommending improvements in tools, workflows, and financial processes.
• Collaborate with clients on strategic initiatives — from profitability analysis to vendor negotiations.
• Build trusted relationships with client stakeholders, lawyers, and banking contacts.

2) Coach, Mentor, and Collaborate

• Guide and support a high-performing bookkeeping team through training, mentorship, and ongoing feedback.
• Conduct performance check-ins and help team members grow in both technical skills and leadership capacity.
• Coordinate closely with other managers to manage workloads, ensure resource alignment, and address team dynamics proactively.

3) Support Firm-Wide Strategic Initiatives

• Drive improvements in internal systems, processes, and service delivery by leading or contributing to firm-wide projects.
• Take ownership of key initiatives that align with your strengths and interests — from workflow optimization to client experience enhancements.
• Work cross-functionally to ensure projects are implemented smoothly and deliver real impact.
