About the Role

Reporting to the CFO and Owners, the Accounting Manager will own the day-to-day financial operations of the company, including monthly financial reporting, work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, cash flow forecasting, payroll, and bank reconciliations. You'll supervise the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable Accountants, acting as the central point of accountability for the finance function. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who is comfortable both managing the details and presenting results to leadership.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Statements & Reporting
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and perform month-end close checklist tasks
  • Post monthly accrual and adjusting journal entries
  • Present the financial statement package and KPIs to Company stakeholders
  • Prepare the quarterly Borrowing Base Certificate (BBC) for bank reporting
  • Calculate bank covenants and monitor ongoing compliance
  • Prepare WCB, EHT, RRSP, and GST filings for Owner approval
Work-In-Progress (WIP)
  • Maintain and update the WIP Master workbook and distribute it to Project Managers/PMAs
  • Run the monthly WIP calculation process
  • Prepare the list of open jobs and coordinate with PMAs to close completed jobs
  • Close out work orders in preparation for monthly WIP revenue processing
Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable
  • Supervise the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable Accountants
  • Prepare the AP payment budget based on reconciled bank transactions and coordinate payment strategy
  • Monitor corporate credit cards and flag balances approaching credit limits
  • Draft the payment list and submit for CFO/Owner approval
  • Set invoicing targets and work with Project Manager/PMA teams to achieve them
  • Follow up on aged AR over 120 days
Payroll
  • Review timecards for accuracy and completeness prior to submission
  • Submit timecards for approval and processing
  • Post payroll journal entries and benefits invoices
  • Respond to payroll-related questions from staff
Bank Reconciliations & Cash Analysis
  • Reconcile bank accounts on a monthly basis
  • Review AP files and prepare a spreadsheet of upcoming payments for Owner review
  • Monitor cash flow and support budgeting and forecasting activities
Leadership & Controls
  • Supervise and mentor the AP and AR Accountants, providing coaching and workload oversight
  • Maintain and improve internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures
  • Liaise with external accountants, auditors, and financial institutions as needed
  • Support the CFO and Owner with ad hoc financial analysis and special projects
What We're Looking For
  • 5–8 years of progressive accounting experience, including experience in a supervisory or management capacity
  • Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA designation (or actively pursuing) is an asset
  • Experience in construction, restoration, trades, or a project/job-costing environment is strongly preferred
  • Comfort working with WIP reporting and job-costing processes
  • Strong working knowledge of accounting software; experience with restoration-specific job management systems is an asset
  • Solid understanding of Canadian GAAP, payroll compliance, and sales tax requirements (GST/PST, WCB, EHT)
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical ability
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly to ownership and leadership
  • High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities
