Job summary

Prairie HVAC/R is seeking an experienced Accounting Coordinator to support daily accounting and financial operations from our Winnipeg office. You will work with leadership and the IR-Pros finance team to maintain records, support AP/AR, reconciliations, and month-end activities while ensuring Canadian tax compliance.

The role requires attention to detail, independence, and team collaboration across the expanding Canadian operation.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
  • 3–4+ years of related accounting or bookkeeping experience.
  • Experience with day-to-day accounting responsibilities with minimal supervision.
  • Experience with HVAC/R, industrial refrigeration, construction, mechanical services, job costing, or project-based accounting is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records.
  • Support month-end and year-end closing activities.
  • Prepare balance sheets, income statements, and other financial reports.
  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts.
  • Code invoices and allocate expenses to appropriate accounts and cost centers.
  • Support accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, deposits, payroll accounts, and customer accounts.
  • Assist with tax filings, remittances, and regulatory documentation.
  • Assist with internal and external audits by gathering reports and supporting documentation.
  • Support cost-control efforts and job costing for projects.

We value employees as individuals and believe in a hands-on, collaborative environment where everyone contributes to the success of the team.The OpportunityWe are looking for an experienced Accounting Coordinator to support the day-to-day accounting and financial operations of Prairie HVAC/R and our Canadian business.Based in our Winnipeg office, this role will work closely with Prairie HVAC/R leadership and the IR-Pros finance team. The Accounting Coordinator will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting accounts payable and accounts receivable, completing reconciliations, assisting with month-end activities, and helping ensure Canadian tax and regulatory requirements are handled accurately and on time.This is a hands-on role for someone who is organized, dependable, detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently while also collaborating with others across the business.Key ResponsibilitiesMaintain accurate and up-to-date financial records.Support month-end and year-end closing activities.Prepare and assist with balance sheets, income statements, profit and loss reports, and other financial reports.Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts.Code invoices and ensure expenses are charged to the appropriate accounts and cost centers.Support accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.Reconcile bank accounts, deposits, payroll accounts, customer accounts, and other financial accounts.Assist with customer account follow-up and collections.Prepare or assist with tax filings, remittances, and required financial documentation.Support compliance with applicable Canadian and Manitoba tax requirements, including GST, PST, payroll remittances, and other regulatory requirements.Assist with internal and external audits by gathering reports, account information, and supporting documentation.Work with department managers and leadership to provide financial information and support cost-control efforts.Support job costing and project-based accounting activities.Maintain knowledge of company accounting procedures, policies, and accounting software systems.Help identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting, and efficiency.Perform other related accounting and administrative duties as assigned.Education & ExperiencePost-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred.3–4+ years of related accounting or bookkeeping experience.Experience handling a variety of day-to-day accounting responsibilities with minimal supervision.Experience with HVAC/R, industrial refrigeration, construction, mechanical services, job costing, or project-based accounting is an asset.Experience working in a growing or multi-location organization is a plus.Skills & QualificationsStrong understanding of general accounting and bookkeeping practices.Knowledge of Canadian accounting requirements and business taxation.Knowledge of Canadian and Manitoba tax requirements, including GST, PST, payroll remittances, and regulatory compliance.Understanding of cost accounting and job-costing principles is an asset.Strong attention to detail and accuracy.Strong organizational and time-management skills.Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.Strong math, analytical, and problem-solving skills.Good written and verbal communication skills.Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.Experience using accounting software.Ability to handle confidential financial and employee information professionally.Self-motivated and comfortable working independently.Dependable, approachable, and team-oriented.Willingness to support a variety of accounting and administrative needs as the business continues to grow.Why Join Prairie HVAC/R & IR-Pros?This is an opportunity to join an established Winnipeg operation while becoming part of a growing North American organization.The Accounting Coordinator will play an important role in supporting Prairie HVAC/R's financial operations and helping ensure the Canadian business continues to run efficiently as IR-Pros expands its presence across Canada.If you are an experienced accounting professional who enjoys variety, takes pride in accuracy, and likes being part of a collaborative team, we would like to hear from you.Prairie HVAC/R is an IR-Pros company.Work Location: In person
