Job summary

Doane Grant Thornton is seeking an Accountant in the Privately Held Business Group to manage client engagements and deliver timely financial statements. You’ll handle bookkeeping, payroll, tax returns and ad-hoc duties while building strong client relationships across Canada.

Ideal candidates have 1–5 years of accounting experience, familiarity with Sage and QBO, and demonstrated attention to detail. The role supports collaboration in a flexible, professional environment with opportunities for

Qualifications

• Accounting certificate, diploma or equivalent practical experience.
• 1-5 years of accounting experience, preferably in public practice.
• Experience with Sage and QBO is an asset.
• Ability to work independently and within a team.
• Excellent attention to detail and strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute client engagements in accordance with firm standards.
• Bookkeeping preparation and posting of client transactions.
• Planning and execution of compilation engagements, including preparation of financial statements.
• Preparing adjusting journal entries and working paper files.
• Reconciling bank accounts, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and other balance sheet accounts.
• Preparing and reconciling payroll records and related remittances.
• Preparing personal and corporate tax returns, trust returns and GST returns.
• Assisting a broad range of privately held business clients with day-to-day accounting queries.
• Completing additional ad-hoc duties or assignments as required.
• Building and maintaining strong client relationships through responsive and professional service.
