Job summary

Doane Grant Thornton in Canada is seeking an Accountant for the Privately Held Business Group. You will plan and execute engagements, prepare financial statements, and handle tax returns for variety of clients. The role emphasizes accuracy, teamwork, and proactive client service.

Qualifications

• An accounting certificate, diploma or equivalent practical experience.
• 1-5 years of accounting experience, preferably in public practice.
• Experience with Sage and QBO is an asset
• The ability to work independently and within a team
• Excellent attention to detail
• Ability to be an articulate, inspiring and versatile communicator, both written and verbal

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute client engagements in accordance with firm standards
• Bookkeeping preparation and posting of client transactions
• Planning and execution of compilation engagements, including preparation of financial statements
• Preparing adjusting journal entries and working paper files
• Reconciling bank accounts, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and other balance sheet accounts
• Preparing and reconciling payroll records and related remittances
• Preparing personal and corporate tax returns, trust returns and GST returns
• Assisting a broad range of privately held business clients with day-to-day accounting queries
• Completing additional ad-hoc duties or assignments as required
• Building and maintaining strong client relationships through responsive and professional service
