Job summary

RLB People is assisting a well-established non-profit in the Kitchener area to hire a full-time Accountant to oversee day-to-day accounting, payroll, and charitable receipting. You will work independently in a small-office setting, ensuring accurate records, timely reporting, and compliance with CRA and HST requirements, while supporting budgeting and financial administration.

This role offers meaningful work, confidentiality, and the chance to contribute to community impact; onsite in Ontario

Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience in accounting, bookkeeping, payroll administration, or financial administration.
  • Post-secondary education in accounting, bookkeeping, business administration, finance, or related field or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with financial recordkeeping, bank reconciliations, financial reporting, payment processing, and payroll administration.
  • Working knowledge of Canadian payroll and regulatory requirements, including CRA remittances and year-end payroll reporting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, organization, and follow-through.
  • Ability to work independently while keeping leaders and stakeholders informed.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, able to explain financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Discretion handling confidential financial, donor, payroll, and organizational information.
  • Non-profit, charitable, church, or faith-based experience is an asset.
  • Experience with charitable receipting, CRA charity requirements, audit/year-end papers, accounting/payroll/donor software, or as sole accounting resource is helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate financial records, including donations, receipts, deposits, bank transactions, and expenditures.
  • Prepare bank reconciliations, journal entries, payments, and monthly financial statements for leadership review.
  • Support financial analysis, reporting, and information-sharing to aid leadership decisions.
  • Maintain donation records across multiple methods including cash, cheque, e-transfer, online, and pre-authorized giving.
  • Issue official charitable receipts per CRA requirements.
  • Administer electronic banking, vendor payments, payroll deposits, bill payments, and related documentation.
  • Administer payroll including calculations, direct deposits, deductions, remittances, ROEs, and related records.
  • Support benefits administration including enrollments, changes, terminations, and related docs.
  • Prepare CRA remittances, HST filings, charity filings, WSIB reporting, and other government filings.
  • Prepare working papers for annual audit or review.
  • Coordinate annual budgeting process and budget-to-actual reporting.
  • Suggest process improvements to strengthen accuracy and controls.
  • Research and resolve financial issues.
  • Serve as primary contact for internal/external financial and payroll inquiries.
  • Provide additional administrative and operational support.

A well-established non-profit / faith-based organization in the Kitchener area is seeking a full-time Accountant to oversee day-to-day accounting, payroll, charitable receipting, compliance, budgeting, and financial administration.

This role is ideal for someone who is comfortable working independently, managing recurring deadlines, and supporting a small-office environment with professionalism, discretion, and care.

The Accountant plays a key role in maintaining financial integrity, supporting informed decision-making, and ensuring that financial processes are accurate, timely, compliant, and aligned with the organization's values. What You'll Do
  • Maintain accurate financial records, including donations, receipts, deposits, bank transactions, operating expenditures, and supporting documentation
  • Prepare bank reconciliations, journal entries, payments, monthly financial statements, and routine reports for leadership or governance review
  • Support financial analysis, reporting, and information-sharing to help leadership plan and make informed decisions
  • Maintain accurate donation and contribution records across multiple giving methods, including cash, cheque, e-transfer, online platforms, and pre-authorized giving
  • Issue official charitable donation/tax receipts in accordance with applicable Canada Revenue Agency requirements
  • Manage electronic banking activities, vendor payments, EFTs, payroll deposits, bill payments, cheque deposits, and related documentation
  • Administer payroll, including calculations, direct deposits, deductions, taxable benefits, remittances, T4s, ROEs, and related payroll records
  • Support benefits administration, including enrolments, changes, terminations, and related documentation
  • Prepare compliance filings and reports, which may include CRA payroll remittances, HST filings or rebate claims, charitable or not-for-profit annual filings, WSIB reporting, and other government requirements
  • Prepare working papers and supporting documentation for the annual audit or financial review
  • Coordinate and support the annual budgeting process, including budget schedules, documentation, and budget-to-actual reporting
  • Recommend process improvements to strengthen accuracy, efficiency, internal controls, and responsible financial stewardship
  • Research and resolve financial issues
  • Provide advice and direction as the primary organizational contact for internal and external financial and payroll inquiries
  • Provide other needed administrative and operational support

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, organization, and follow-through
  • The ability to work independently while keeping leaders and stakeholders appropriately informed
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain financial information to non-financial stakeholders
  • A high degree of discretion when handling confidential financial, donor, payroll, and organizational information
  • Experience in a non-profit, charitable, church, or faith-based organization would be considered an asset.
  • Experience with charitable receipting, CRA requirements for registered charities, audit or year end working papers, accounting/payroll/donor management software, or serving as the sole accounting resource in a small organization would also be helpful
