Job summary

Shannex Incorporated is seeking an Accountant II, Financial Reporting to join our Finance Team in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The role focuses on in-depth financial statement review, analysis, account reconciliations, and support across finance divisions.

Key duties include month-end close, journal entries, and preparation of annual audited statements. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance efficiency and deliver accurate reporting for decision-making.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in accounting or finance; CPA designation or near completion.
  • Minimum 4–5 years of accounting experience.
  • Strong computer literacy with advanced MS Office.
  • Thorough knowledge of ASPE.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Advanced skills in Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
  • Yardi software experience is an asset.
  • Passion for healthcare and senior care services.

Responsibilities

  • Completes month-end processes including accruals and GL reconciliations.
  • Prepares and posts journal entries for month-end close.
  • Reconciling corporate GL accounts and investigate reconciling items.
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Review financial reports and provide variance explanations.
  • Collaborate with accounting, treasury and other departments to improve processes.
  • Develop financial analysis tools for government funding and deferred revenues.
  • Document accounting processes and policies for the reporting team.
  • Assist with annual audited financial statements and liaise with auditors.
  • Prepare financial reports, charts, and ad-hoc business growth projects.

We are searching for an Accountant II, Financial Reporting to join our Finance Team based in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

About The Opportunity

As an Accountant II at Shannex, you will play a crucial role in our Finance Team, providing in-depth financial statement review, analysis, account reconciliations and support to various finance divisions. Key responsibilities include:

  • Completes month end processes including accruals, general ledger account reconciliations, and monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Prepares and posts journal entries as part of month-end close, maintaining proper accounting records and support for all journal entry postings.
  • Reconciling corporate general ledger accounts. Investigate reconciling items and work with cross functional teams to understand the business, ensuring appropriate accounting for transactions in compliance with Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE).
  • Assisting with the on-time preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements and statements of cash flow.
  • Reviewing financial reports and generating detailed reports and variance explanations to provide insights on key financial metrics to support decision-making processes.
  • Working closely with accounting, treasury, and other departments to streamline financial processes and enhance efficiency. Recommending and implementing ideas for process improvement, efficiency, and performance.
  • Building and utilizing financial analysis tools to manage and report on government funding and deferred revenues and other financial reporting sections as required.
  • Documenting accounting process and policies to provide guidance on accounting matters to the financial reporting team.
  • Assist with the preparation and delivery of the annual audited financial statements. Liaise with auditors during the audits to ensure their queries are addressed.
  • Prepare financial reports, charts, tables, power point presentations and other exhibits as requested; Respond to ad-hoc projects related to business growth etc.

About You

In addition to being driven and detail oriented, you place high value on accuracy, efficiency, collaboration, and accountability, and have the following qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance and have your CPA designation, or are near completion of the related CPA program
  • Minimum 4 - 5 years’ experience in an accounting role, preferably in public practice setting, or similar corporate role
  • Strong computer literacy including advanced working skills in Microsoft Office
  • Thorough technical knowledge of Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE)
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Advanced skills in the use of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Experience with Yardi software would be considered an asset.
