Job summary

Sunoco LP is seeking a skilled Fixed Assets Accountant to manage asset additions, disposals, transfers, and capitalization in line with IFRS, US GAAP, and company policy. You will ensure data accuracy, prepare reports, and support audits while collaborating with cross-functional teams on capital asset matters.

The role requires a degree in accounting or related field, at least three years of experience, and expertise with large ERP systems, Excel, and Power BI.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive accounting and/or auditing experience.
  • Strong understanding of fixed assets accounting under U.S. GAAP and IFRS (IAS 16).
  • Experience with large-scale ERP systems and Power BI.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Processing asset additions and disposals, transfers, WIP to capital, and capitalization in accordance with U.S. GAAP, IFRS and company policy.
  • Investigate discrepancies and errors and maintain accuracy.
  • Prepare PPE and Intangible working papers and continuity schedules.
  • Produce monthly gain/loss reports on Fixed Assets.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on capital asset matters.
  • Support audits and respond to auditor requests.
  • Update PPE and Intangible input forms in OneStream monthly.
  • Assist in process improvements for capital assets.

The Opportunity:

Responsible for managing fixed asset accounting processes, including asset additions, disposals, transfers, and capitalization in compliance with IFRS, U.S. GAAP, and company policies. Ensures data accuracy by investigating discrepancies, preparing reports (e.g., gain/loss and asset continuity schedules), and supporting audits. Collaborates with cross-functional teams on capital asset matters, monitors project spending, and contributes to process improvements and system updates.

Responsibilities:

Fixed assets accounting and processing, including, but not limited to:

  • Processing asset additions and disposals, transfers, WIP to capital, internal labor capitalization, authority for expenditure (AFE) approvals, accruals, and consolidation journal entries in accordance with U.S. GAAP, IFRS and company accounting policy. \
  • Investigate discrepancies and errors. Prevent errors and maintain a high level of accuracy.
  • Assist in preparing Property, Plant, & Equipment, and Intangible working papers - continuity schedules and additions and retirement reports.
  • Preparing the monthly gain/loss reports on Fixed Assets.
  • Proactively elevating capital asset issues to Manager or assisting to provide expertise to the organization; working closely with various departments impacted by capital assets (e.g., property tax, commodity tax, internal audit, business segments (retail, commercial and wholesale, and distribution), procurement, fleet, operations and legal).
  • Communicate with project managers and operations regarding capital project spending.
  • Actively participate in the process and system improvements projects relating to capital assets; Assist in developing and enhancing procedures to ensure a high standard of data accuracy and efficiencies as required.
  • Monthly update of PPE and Intangible input forms in OneStream.
  • Respond to and support both internal and external auditor requests throughout the year.
  • Be a trusted and reliable resource who will work closely with the team in Finance Shared Services and other divisions; and
  • Assist in other areas of Fixed Assets as required.
Education:
  • University/college degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
Requirements:
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive accounting and/or auditing experience.
  • Strong understanding of fixed assets accounting under U.S. GAAP and IFRS (specifically IAS 16) and, including construction in progress and capitalization of labor.
  • Experience with large‑scale ERP systems, SAP or JD Edwards experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office applications, with strong Excel skills and experience using Power BI.
  • Solid understanding of journal entries, intercompany transactions, and account reconciliations.
  • Knowledge of CRA tax regulations related to fixed assets, including CCA classifications.
  • Experience with Lease accounting is considered an asset.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
