Job summary

Chartwell Retirement Residences seeks a Corporate / Fixed Assets Accountant to join the Corporate Accounting team. The role centers on maintaining the Yardi Fixed Assets system and providing fixed assets reporting for the company.

You will manage asset creation, depreciation analysis, journal entries, and capital leases while supporting budgeting, forecasting, and process automation across the organization.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree in accounting, finance, or business administration.
  • 1–3 years of experience in general accounting.
  • 1–3 years of experience in accounting for capital assets preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Creation of assets into the YFA system, and verification of coding.
  • Complete monthly depreciation analysis and derecognition entries.
  • Maintain capital leases and amortization schedules for the Chartwell portfolio.
  • Assist in monthly insurance clearing, and WIP to Operations entries.
  • Post journal entries in YFA and general ledger; support budgeting/forecasting.
  • Identify automation opportunities to improve fixed asset processes.

Corporate / Fixed Assets Accountant is an integral part of the Corporate Accounting team whose primary responsibilities will be to maintain the Yardi Fixed Assets ("YFA") system and to providing fixed assets reporting for the Company.

Corporate / Fixed Assets Accountant is an integral part of the Corporate Accounting team whose primary responsibilities will be to maintain the Yardi Fixed Assets ("YFA") system and to providing fixed assets reporting for the Company.


Key Accountabilities


  • Creation of assets into the YFA system;

  • Verify coding and accounting classification of fixed assets purchase orders;

  • Completion of monthly depreciation analysis;

  • Responsible for preparing derecognition journal entries;

  • Identify and implement automation in fixed assets processes to improve efficiency;

  • Responsible for tracking and maintaining capital leases for the Chartwell portfolio, including creation of amortization schedules;

  • Assist in preparing monthly insurance clearing entries;

  • Assist in preparing WIP to Operations entries;

  • Tracking and posting of required journal entries in the YFA and the general ledger;

  • Participate in the budgeting and forecasting activities of fixed assets;

  • Responsible for Statistics Canada quarterly and annual financial and capital expenditures surveys;

  • Continuously strive to develop recommendations and provide oversight for process and YFA;

  • Ensure that proper controls are in place and adhered to;

  • Participation in special projects as requested.


Qualifications

Education:


  • A post-secondary degree in accounting, finance, or business administration;


Experience:


  • 1-3 years of experience in general accounting;

  • 1-3 years of experience in accounting for capital assets preferred.


Skills & Abilities:


  • Strong analytical skills and possess a natural interest in analytical activities and investigation, as well as strong attention to detail and accuracy;

  • Advanced excel proficiency is mandatory;

  • Knowledge of IFRS;

  • A focus on automation, continuous improvement and quality output;

  • Ability to manage and validate large amounts of data;

  • Excellent interpersonal communication and the ability to present ideas in a user-friendly format;

  • Easily adapts to changes, delays, or unexpected events in the work environment;

  • The ability to organize and prioritize work to meet defined deadlines in a large fast-paced work environment;

  • Flexibility in hours will be required during peak periods.


Effort


  • Work requires a high degree of mental effort to analyze situations, verify information, and working with a computer.

  • Physical effort will be in the form of keyboarding or walking to periodic meetings.


Working Conditions


  • Work is generally performed in a hybrid environment.
