Overview

Under the direction of the Manager, Finance & Risk, the Accountant supports the Financial Analyst, Senior Accountants, and oversees the Accounts Payable Coordinator role. The position provides accounting support for daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual entries to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, maintaining compliance with provincial government expense directives. It also involves preparing summary reports related to the Ontario Energy Board Act, Section 30, and Intervenor Cost Awards for senior management. Strong problem-solving, analytical, decision-making, and communication skills are essential.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with OEB People Leaders and vendors to create monthly and Fiscal Year-End expense and capital accruals by reviewing open contracts.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and Fiscal Year-End journal entries and accruals for the Senior Financial Analyst and Senior Accountants.
  • Update bank and expense signing authority schedules regularly with staff, ELC, and the Board of Directors.
  • Support the Senior Accountants by preparing and analyzing documentation requests for audits and financial statement reviews.
  • Validate invoices for compliance with agreements and purchase orders.
  • Support accounts payable month-end closing, including accruals.
  • Create and invoice for payments supporting license renewals, submitting for approval.
  • Assist in all aspects of Section 30 and Intervenor Cost Awards processes.
  • Coordinate with Case Managers for invoice processing and payment details.
  • Prepare memos for Intervenor Quarterly Cost Award payments and submit for approval.
  • Follow up on invoices based on open PO reports.
  • Respond to inquiries from Case Managers, People Leaders, and Commissioners regarding Section 30 Intervenor Case Summaries.
Qualifications
  • University degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Business Administration, or related field.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience, such as in accounting or financial analysis roles.
  • Preferably 2+ years of experience with Public Sector Accounting Standards.
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) or equivalent preferred; actively pursuing CPA designation required.
  • Experience in a public sector environment is an asset.
  • Strong analytical skills, problem-solving ability, and risk awareness.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains is preferred.
  • High accuracy, accountability, organization, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
