Position Summary:
Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Accountant supports the monthly close, financial reporting and tax compliance processes by ensuring the accuracy and completeness of financial records. Working closely with the Corporate and regional finance team across Canada, this role is responsible preparing journal entries, reconciliations, variance analysis, taxes filings and reporting schedules. In addition to the core deliverables, the Accountant will support initiatives including business process improvements and the optimization of the close process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare recurring and adjusting journal entries including accruals, prepaids, intercompany transactions, and banking activities, with appropriate supporting documentation
- Perform weekly bank reconciliations, ensuring transactions are properly authorized, recorded, and reconciling items are investigated and resolved in a timely manner
- Prepare and maintain monthly account reconciliations and working papers, ensuring subledgers are reconciled to the general ledger and discrepancies are investigated and resolved
- Support month-end, quarter-end and year-close process according to established timelines
- Review and verify transactions and account activities to ensure accuracy, completeness and proper general ledger coding; prepare monthly variance analysis, including explanations to significant variances and unusual transactions
- Prepare and file GST, PST, and other indirect tax returns in accordance with regulatory requirements
- Assist with treasury activities, including monitoring cash balances, preparing bank transfers, and supporting daily cash management requirements
- Assist with ad-hoc projects, including process improvement, system implementations and other finance initiatives as required
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Current/Future enrollment in CPA designation program
- 1-2 years of accounting experience; co-op, internship, or accounting clerk experience is considered an asset.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial statements; experience working with multi-entity environment is an asset
- Experience preparing account reconciliations and supporting period-end close processes
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis
- Ability to quickly learn and adapt to ERP systems and other financial software
- Detail oriented with excellent organizational and time management skills
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and time management skills with high attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
