Job summary

JRoss Recruiters in Calgary is seeking an experienced accountant to join a collaborative finance team. You will prepare monthly journal entries, manage the general ledger, and support high-volume AP/AR activities while contributing to month-end, quarter-end and year-end reporting.

This role requires strong technical accounting skills, ERP experience (Dynamics 365 BC preferred), and a commitment to accuracy. Office-based, full-time with solid benefits and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
  • Experience with reconciliations and month-end closing activities.
  • Advanced Excel skills and ability to analyze data.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and post monthly journal entries and maintain general ledger accounts.
  • Review accounts payable and accounts receivable activities with high volume.

Job description

Work collaboratively with the Controller to prepare and post monthly journal entries and maintain accurate general ledger accounts.

Review and support accounts payable and accounts receivable activities, including a high volume of transactions.

Participate in full-cycle accounting and month-end, quarter-end and year-end reporting.

Prepare and review account and bank reconciliations.

Support year-end closing activities and external reporting requirements.

Manage regulatory filings including GST, PST and WCB requirements.

Analyze financial results and prepare variance analysis as required.

Support inventory accounting and related reconciliations.

Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation.

Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, workflows and system efficiencies.

Support financial reporting and analysis across the organization.

Participate in ad hoc analysis, special projects and other accounting initiatives as required.

Requirements

Minimum three years of progressive accounting experience.

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or a related field.

Strong understanding of accounting principles, general ledger accounting and financial reporting.

Experience with account reconciliations and month-end closing activities.

Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

Strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving abilities.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and consistently meet deadlines.

Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Comfortable working within a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Retail accounting experience is considered a strong asset.

Experience with ERP or accounting systems required, with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central preferred.

Progress toward a CPA designation is considered an asset.

Salary of $80,000 to $85,000 depending on experience.
