Job summary

Sobeys is seeking an Accountant to join our Finance Accounting & Control team. This permanent role offers a hybrid work arrangement with 3 days in person and will be based at our Stellarton Corporate Office on King Street.

You will prepare ledger entries, support period-end closes, and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure IFRS compliance. CPA is an asset; 1-2+ years of accounting experience required; strong Excel skills a must.

Qualifications

• University degree required.
• 1–2+ years accounting experience.
• CPA designation (or in progress) would be an asset.
• Advanced Excel skills required.
• Knowledge of IFRS.

Responsibilities

• Post entries and maintain general ledger.
• Prepare working papers supporting balances and correct errors.
• Complete period-end close procedures.
• Review schedules for note disclosures.
• Explain balance sheet variances with prior periods.
• Assist with CEO/CFO certifications.
• Support internal and external audits.
• Collaborate with stakeholders on IFRS-compliant recommendations.
• Propose process improvements.
• Prepare analytical and ad-hoc reports.

This position is hybrid (3 days per week in person) and will be based out of our Stellarton Corporate Office on King street

Here’s where you’ll be focusing:

• Accurately prepare and post entries and account for transactions in the general ledger.
• Prepare and review working papers that support account balances, investigate errors, and facilitate correction.
• Complete period-end close processes, controls, and procedures.
• Review and update the detailed schedules for financial statement note disclosure purpose.
• Prepare and explain balance sheet variances with comparative periods.
• Ensure compliance with CEO/CFO Certification requirements.
• Participate in the internal and external audit requests.
• Collaborate with various stakeholders to support and guide them with proper recommendation in accordance with accounting standard IFRS.
• Process improvement mindset, propose innovated ideas.
• Prepare various analytical and ad-hoc reports

What you have to offer:

• University Degree
• 1-2+ years of accounting related experience
• Accounting Designation CPA (or in the process of obtaining) would be an asset
• Advanced Microsoft Office skills (particularly Excel)
• Knowledge of accounting standard IFRS
• Strong communication skills (Both oral and written)
• Solid analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of SAP is preferred
