Job summary

ECO Canada in Calgary is seeking a dedicated Accountant to join the Finance team, reporting to the Director of Finance. This is a permanent full-time role focused on accurate financial data, reconciliations, and timely reporting.

You will manage AP, AR, revenue posts, prepaid schedules, journal entries, and month-end close. After a 3-month probation, a hybrid schedule with three days in the office is available.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree in Accounting or related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on accounting experience.
  • Experience with AP, credit card processing, prepaid schedules, and amortization.
  • Proficient in account reconciliations and month-end close.
  • Experience with MS 365 or ERP/accounting systems.

Responsibilities

  • Process accounts payable invoices and CC transactions with accurate data entry.
  • Prepare customer invoices, statements, monitor receivables and support collections.
  • Record and reconcile revenue from various online platforms.
  • Maintain prepaid expense schedules and amortization entries.
  • Prepare journal entries and assist with month-end close activities.
  • Maintain a contract register tracking agreements, renewals and status.
  • Complete ad hoc tasks as needed.

Job Description

Are you looking for a role where you will truly make a difference and contribute to a growing industry in Canada? ECO Canada is looking for a performance-driven individual to join the team immediately. Reporting to the Director of Finance, the successful candidate will have a passion for the environment and expertise in general accounting functions, reconciliation, and analysis.

As a key member of the Finance team, the Accountant will be responsible for managing assigned accounting transactions, GL reconciliations and analysis, and maintaining accurate financial records. While each member of ECO Canada has individual responsibilities, ECO takes a team-based approach. Everyone is encouraged to take ownership of their ideas and to see them through to completion, collaborating with key influencers as required.

This is a permanent full-time position.

Responsibilities
  • Process accounts payable (AP) invoices and corporate credit card (CC) transactions, ensuring timely and accurate entry of financial data.
  • Prepare customer sales invoices, generate statements of account, monitor outstanding receivables, and support accounts receivable collection activities to promote timely payment from customers
  • Record and reconcile revenue transactions from various online payment platforms, ensuring accurate revenue reporting and completeness of financial records
  • Maintain prepaid expense schedules and record monthly and quarterly amortization entries for memberships, subscriptions, and other prepaid expenses to ensure expenses are recognized accurately over the applicable periods.
  • Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and provide support for month-end close activities and other general accounting functions.
  • Maintain and manage contract records by developing and updating a comprehensive contract register that tracks vendor and customer agreements, memberships, subscriptions, effective dates, renewal terms, commitments, purpose, and active/inactive status to support financial planning and compliance.
  • Complete ad hoc accounting tasks and provide additional support depending on staff capacity and departmental needs.
Qualifications
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in processing and reviewing financial data
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify discrepancies or issues in accounts
  • Time management and organizational skills to meet recurring monthly deadlines
  • Proactive communicator who is comfortable sending professional email communications
  • Team-oriented but also capable of working independently with minimal supervision
Education And Experience
  • Post-secondary degree in Accounting or a related field
  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on accounting experience
  • Proven experience in Accounts Payable, credit card transaction processing, prepaid schedules, and amortization
  • Proficient in performing account reconciliations
  • Strong experience in month-end close processes
  • Experience using MS 365 or similar ERP or accounting systems is highly preferred.

This role is based at ECO Canada’s Calgary head office. Following a 3-month probation period, eligible employees may transition to a hybrid schedule with at least 3 days per week in the office.
