We are looking for a highly motivated, confident individual with strong communication and organizational skills to provide support in a busy and dynamic environment. As an Account Maintenance Technician in the Assessment and Taxation Branch, your primary role will be to ensure information on tax accounts is current and accurate for the purpose of assessing properties in the City of Edmonton. You will be required to use your data entry experience, attention to detail and effective organizational skills to perform a variety of tasks.
What will you do?
- Input information in the assessment and taxation database related to ownership and account statuses
- Verify Land Titles interface updates, monitor and resolve land title messages, enter title rejections and correct errors
- Review data entry of peers and track workload on Google sheets
- Research and create accounts and account relationships for properties affected by subdivision, road, condominium, or consolidation plans, etc.
- Create and update non-titled property accounts
- Process and distribute mail for the Branch; research and redirect mail returned by Canada Post and update information on tax accounts
- Input school support forms from new property owners and record declarations
- Review processes, maintain procedure manuals and identify opportunities for improvement
- Scan documents, file and maintain source documents according to approved retention schedules
- Respond to inquiries related to tax accounts from property owners, law firms, 311, the Edmonton Service Centre and other operational areas and City Departments. Ensure responses are consistent with operational policies and procedures, FOIP and other legislated requirements
- Conduct research, resolve and respond to inquiries and issues related to ownership, school support and mailing address changes
- Liaise with manufactured park owners regarding ownership updates and respond to customer inquiries relating to manufactured home properties
- Collaborate with other operational areas to resolve issues related to property tax account information
- Perform other related duties as required
Qualifications:
- Completed high school diploma or GED, including business subjects with emphasis on general office practices or completion of an appropriate certificate program
- 2 years office experience in an administrative role with demonstrated experience inputting large volumes of information
Skills required for success:
- Familiarity with land titles documents and reading maps/registered plans
- Working knowledge of Taxation, Assessment and Collection System (TACS), POSSE and Alberta Land Titles would be an asset
- Excellent data entry and computer skills using various applications including Google
- Must be well organized, have strong multi-tasking skills and the ability to use good judgment in managing and prioritizing a large volume of workload
- Accurate data entry skills and proficiency using various computer applications
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively within a team
- Customer service experience and the ability to respond to inquiries (verbally and written) in a professional and respectful manner
- Ability to work efficiently and effectively with a high level of accuracy under tight timelines
- Demonstrated ability to achieve results in the context of a respectful, inclusive and service-minded style

Conditions of employment:
- Hire is dependent on a Criminal Records Check (CRC) security clearance that is satisfactory to the City of Edmonton and is a requirement of this position. There may be a cost associated with this requirement.
Work Environment:
- Note: This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52.
- The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.
