Job summary

Durham College is seeking an Accessibility Coach to support students in obtaining accommodations and navigating educational pathways. The role involves building partnerships with faculty, using adaptive technologies, and guiding students toward educational equity within the Access and Support Centre.

Ideal candidates have a 4-year degree, 5+ years advising students with exceptionalities, and strong coaching and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Minimum 4-year degree in Education or Social Sciences/Humanities/Business Administration.
• Minimum 5 years of experience advising and advocating for students with exceptionalities in a college setting.
• Extensive knowledge of exceptionalities and effects in a college environment.
• Strong coaching practices and implementation knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Determine eligibility of students to access ASC services based on documentation.
• Meet with students to review accommodations, goals, and success strategies.
• Develop an Access plan detailing accommodation needs and responsibilities.
• Obtain consent for communication of accommodation plans with faculty.
• Plan, implement, evaluate and consult around accommodations at placement sites.
• Recommend bursaries for Students with Disabilities where appropriate.
• Inform Director and/or staff as appropriate.
• Maintain student files for transfer and access requests.
• Provide referrals to internal and external services.
