Overview

Academic Accommodations and Accessibility Specialist — Yorkville University. You will champion equal access and opportunities for people with disabilities by developing and coordinating individualized support strategies and contributing to institutional initiatives that promote equitable access to learning. You will collaborate with leadership and administrative teams to shape a responsive, respectful, and solution-focused work environment where every team member can thrive. This is a full-time role, primarily on-site at our Concord campus.

Role and responsibilities
  • Provide understanding and service: Collaborate with students, faculty, and academic leaders to assess needs, review psychoeducational documentation, develop individualized accommodation plans, and provide one-on-one guidance and advocacy to create a barrier-free learning experience.
  • Ensure compliance and promote awareness: Coordinate academic accommodations across programs and departments, ensure compliance with legal requirements and policies, raise awareness through workshops and resources, and foster inclusion.
  • Maintain integrity and confidentiality: Manage secure records of accommodation requests and liaise with faculty, advisors, and registrars to ensure smooth execution while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Innovate with technology: Recommend and manage assistive technologies, maintain accessible resources (FAQs and online materials), and collaborate with external disability support organizations.
  • Contribute to culture: Support a positive and inclusive culture that reflects core values and builds a stronger community of accessibility and respect.
Qualifications
  • The education: Bachelor’s degree with knowledge of disability legislation, accessibility standards (e.g., AODA, ADA), and accommodation practices. A graduate degree in counselling, psychology, social work, education, or related field is an asset.
  • The experience: Experience working with youth or adults requiring accommodations in a strategic support or advisory role, ideally within an educational context. Familiarity with accommodation plans, assistive technologies, psychoeducational assessments is advantageous.
  • The mindset: Innovative problem solver, detail-oriented, solutions-oriented, and committed to reducing barriers in education and employment.
  • The interpersonal skills: Professional, flexible communication; ability to build trusting relationships; Collaboration with varied stakeholders; ability to handle sensitive situations.
  • The technical skills: Proficient with case management systems, learning platforms, assistive technologies, Microsoft Office, and online collaboration tools; openness to emerging technologies.
