Job description

Position Overview

Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Division of Hematopathology and Transfusion Medicine, Eastern Ontario Regional Laboratory Association (EORLA) and the University of Ottawa (UO).

We are seeking an Academic Hematopathologist to join our team providing Hematopathology (HP) and Transfusion Medicine (TM) services including coagulation testing, bone marrow examinations, flow cytometry, hemoglobinopathies, molecular diagnostics, and routine/special laboratory hematology. The successful candidate will contribute to all areas of HP‑TM related service work and participate in the divisional on‑call coverage.

EORLA is a quaternary academic health sciences centre with a large leukemia program, supporting over 200 bone marrow transplants per year and research in thrombosis and precision medicine. The Transfusion Medicine service supports many crucial clinical programs both at the Ottawa Hospital and regional hospitals.

The successful candidate will have an academic appointment at the University of Ottawa and will participate in teaching and research. Rank will be commensurate with experience according to university guidelines. Salary and benefits accord with the Uniform Minimum Level of Compensation for pathologists in Ontario. The position is currently available; the competition will remain open until filled. We regret only candidates selected for interview will be contacted.

Basic Requirements

Candidates must be eligible for licensure by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) and must have, or be eligible to obtain, certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or an acceptable equivalent) in Hematological Pathology. CPSO pathway 3 or 4 candidates from the United States will be considered. As a pre‑condition of employment, all new EORLA employees must obtain and provide a satisfactory Criminal Records Check dated within six (6) months of issue.

Mandatory Vaccination Policy

Per EORLA's COVID‑19 Vaccination Policy, a successful appointment is conditional upon presentation of government‑issued documentation confirming full vaccination with a vaccine approved in Canada. Individuals who cannot be vaccinated on medical grounds or other grounds recognized by the Human Rights Code may request an accommodation. Please note that the Ontario Human Rights Commission’s position is that a singular belief or personal preference against vaccinations and/or masks is not protected under the Code.

Equal Opportunity Employer

EORLA is an equal‑opportunity employer. Accommodations due to a disability are available throughout the selection process.

This advertisement is directed primarily, but not solely, to citizens or permanent residents of Canada. Bilingualism is an asset but not a requirement.
