VGH is the quaternary care centre for the Province of British Columbia for thoracic surgery and lung transplantation, home to the Dilawri Cardiovascular Institute and an Adult Level 1 Trauma Centre for British Columbia.

We are seeking an academically oriented Cardiothoracic Radiologist with a strong interest and experience in teaching and research. A focus on high‑quality clinical work and service is paramount. The Section operates a high‑volume clinical practice, involving adult chest radiographs, thoracic and cardiac CTs, and thoracic and cardiac MRIs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work with four full‑time Cardiothoracic Radiologists.
  • Collaborate closely with the Divisions of Respirology, Thoracic Surgery, Cardiology, Cardiac Surgery and Pathology.
  • Play a key role in training diagnostic radiology residents, respirology residents and medical students who regularly rotate through the section.
  • Run a post‑graduate fellowship programme in cardiothoracic imaging, with 3–4 Fellows annually.
  • Participate in and lead multidisciplinary meetings and collaboration, integral to Thoracic Surgery, Cardiology and Respirology (Interstitial Lung Disease) rounds.
  • Perform and teach CT‑guided transthoracic biopsies and pre‑operative localisations.
  • Demonstrate expertise in interpretation of chest radiography, thoracic and cardiac CT and cardiac and thoracic MRI, and perform percutaneous interventional procedures (CT‑guided transthoracic biopsies and pre‑operative localisations) as a requirement.
Qualifications and Certifications
  • MD degree or equivalent.
  • Completed fellowship training in both Cardiac and Thoracic Imaging.
  • Eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and the Licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada (LMCC).
  • Expertise in interpretation of chest radiography, thoracic and cardiac CT and cardiac and thoracic MRI, and performance of percutaneous interventional procedures (CT‑guided transthoracic biopsies and pre‑operative localisations) is required.

Per recent bylaws changes, physicians from the United States, Australia, Hong Kong, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, Switzerland and the United Kingdom who have completed eligible accredited postgraduate radiology training may be eligible to apply directly for a full licence to practice in British Columbia.
