Job summary

The Academic Advisor is a critical member of the team in the Registrar's Office at the University of Toronto and leads group sessions for incoming first-year undergraduates. The role promotes a welcoming environment and serves as the primary advisor for students transitioning into their first-year programs.

This full-time, term position for up to 18 months requires advising experience, knowledge of university policies, and a commitment to equity and inclusion in a diverse student population.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline, or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum four (4) years of relevant student academic advising experience in a university setting, preferably in a registrar’s office.
• Experience interpreting, applying and advising on rules, guidelines, and procedures.
• Experience and sound knowledge of best practices in advising and student services.
• Experience working with and advising international students and students from diverse backgrounds.
• Advanced skills with Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Advanced skills with ROSI/ACORN, Degree Explorer, or other similar enterprise database solutions/CRM systems.
• Excellent oral and written communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated time-management skills with the ability to effectively prioritize, multi ‐ task and organize work, and meet tight deadlines while able to pay attention to detail.
• Demonstrated skills and ability to provide effective guidance and advice to students in a responsive, empathetic, thoughtful, and discreet manner.
• Knowledge and understanding of equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Your opportunity:
The Academic Advisor is a critical member of the team in the Registrar's Office and takes the lead in developing and delivering group sessions for incoming first-year undergraduate students. The Academic Advisor promotes a welcoming environment in the College for students from diverse backgrounds and serves as the primary advisor and is a resource for those transitioning into their first-year undergraduate programs.
As a member of the New College Registrar's Office, the Academic Advisor will be committed to an equity that recognizes, supports, and responds to the diverse histories, lived and marginalized experiences of students and many communities.

This is a full-time, term position for up to 18 months.
