Lakeridge Health Ajax, ON is hiring a Dietary Aide to support set-up, preparation, serving, and cleanup for all meal services at the AJAX Long-Term Care facility. You will assist with inventory, food planning, and safety, while providing resident meal service and helping in the kitchen and dining areas.

The role requires a High School Diploma, a Food Service Worker Certificate, and a Food Handler's course, with on-the-job training and prior health-care food service experience preferred.

• Completion of an approved Food Service Worker Certificate, or equivalent diploma as recognized by the Ministry of Long-Term Care
• Completion of an approved Food Handler's course
• At least 3 months of on-the-job training to work independently and trained in ACL with proper service procedures for multiple floors in a Long-Term Care
• Relevant food service experience in a health care environment is preferred
• Demonstrated compliance with and knowledge of safe work practices

Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager of Food Services, the Dietary Aide will provide support to the set-up, preparation, serving, and clean up associated with all meal services at the Lakeridge Gardens 320 bed long term care home built on the Ajax-Pickering site.

This new home is part of the government's plan to improve long-term care delivery and capacity in Ontario and in the Durham Region. This state-of-the-art long-term care home sets a new bar for seniors' care, with dining and outdoor space on every floor, a large courtyard, onsite diabetes care, specialized care units and other important innovative features.

Just as Lakeridge Health is a beacon in the Durham community, this new long-term care home is integral to managing and delivering on the needs and expectations of seniors in the Durham community and Ontario.

The Dietary Aide Is Responsible For

• Performing inventory functions to ensure proper products and adequate supplies are available
• Storing supplies in their proper locations and rotating them appropriately in order to use old stock first
• Assisting with the planning of food items and ingredient control
• Serving meals to residents by offering choice in food and beverages for all diet types and textures
• Preparing food and beverages as required for outpatients and visitors
• Operating retherm units
• Assisting cooks as needed with food preparation, planning, and portioning
• Setting up and cleaning the kitchen and dining areas as required
• Verifying, documenting, and reporting discrepancies of various temperatures, including food/beverages at point of service, fridges, freezers, and dish and pot washing machines.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma
• Completion of an approved Food Service Worker Certificate, or equivalent dilpoma as recognized by the Ministry of Long-Term Care
• Completion of an approved Food Handler's course
• At least 3 months of on-the-job training to get comfortable working independently and trained in ACL with the proper service procedures for multiple floors in a Long-Term Care
• Relevant food service experience in a health care environment is preferred
• Demonstrated compliance with and knowledge of safe work practices
• Proven communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to follow both oral and written instructions
• Physical ability to perform the essential duties of the job
