Job summary

Qualifications

• Operating Room course completed within three years with related experience.
• Current Ontario Certificate of Competence as an RPN.
• B.C.L.S. Heart and Stroke Foundation standards current.
• Minimum two years of perioperative scrub experience.
• Recent operating room experience is required.
• Aseptic technique training completed.
• Strong perioperative nursing skills per OR standards.
• Good organizational, interpersonal, and teaching abilities.
• Ability to lead and educate peers in perioperative skills.
• Effective written and verbal communication.
• Flexibility to meet three-shift OR scheduling.

Duties And Responsibilities

To use nursing process in providing patient care. To participate as a member of the Health Care Team and the Nursing Team. As an individual practitioner, to maintain competence and professionalism relevant to current practice. To maintain nursing records. To perform as a member of the surgical team, including perioperative role and in all services. To perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Registered Practical Nurse Diploma from an accredited community college;
• Successful completion of the Operating Room course from an approved program within three years with combined experience;
• Registered Practical Nurse with current Ontario Certificate of Competence;
• Demonstrated commitment to maintain Reflective Practice Standards as outlined by the CNO;
• Current B.C.L.S. Heart and Stroke Foundation Standards;
• Minimum of two years' experience within the perioperative scrub role within a variety of operating room services required;
• Recent experience in an operating room required;
• Aseptic Technique course required;
• Proven to have good technical operating room skills that adhere to AORN/ORNAC standards of practice for a scrub nurse role;
• Proven organizational, interpersonal, problem-solving and teaching skills;
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize and complete assignments adhering to the Operating Room standards of practice for an RPN in a scrub nurse role;
• Proven ability to lead peers and educate peers in perioperative nursing skills;
• Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills;
• Proven ability to perform appropriately in emergency situations;
• Ability to lift, turn, transfer patients manually and with mechanical aids;
• Must be able to meet the expected flexibility in scheduling in an Operating Room setting and have the ability to work all three shifts in order to meet patient care needs in the Operating Room setting;
• Evidence of continuing education related to the position;
• Must have a satisfactory performance record;
